Unregulated inflow of FTs bring urban stress

Whatever is the result, the most important thing is: so what's the PAP government going to do? Are the MIWs going to pay heed to the poll results? Recall before GE2011, there's already a plan to import another 900,000. After the elections, we hear Mr LKY extolling the virtues of foreigners for propelling Singapore's growth, while ignoring the contributions made by true-blue Singaporean citizens and perhaps more importantly, that the same Singaporean citizens who've been paying taxes to maintain his upkeep.

Ultimately, whatever is the attitude of the FTs, it isn't the most important case in point. They've freedom of emotions, freedom of thoughts and freedom of motives for coming here to Singapore. I personally don't blame them for the current plight to us Singaporeans, for the real culprits behind all the misery average Singaporeans suffered to date are the MIWs and their policy. First, it was this policy which opened the floodgates to foreigners, whether this world is a globalised one or not. This first move has already set the pace for what's happening thereafter. Second, it was also the policy of the MIWs for welcoming the FTs with open arms, even by magnifying their contributions at the expense of Singaporeans, which emboldened some if not all of the FTs to carry the 'high and mighty' attitude over Singaporeans.

While it's understandable that as a metropolitan state, Singapore is not to isolate itself from the waves of globalisation and its free transnational interflow of people, it doesn't mean that the wider you open your doors, the better it is. On the contrary, look at what are the adverse consequences of uncontrolled, unregulated FT inflows? Urban stress, straining of public infrastructure, social problems, all of which resulted in resentment amongst Singaporeans. But to the MIWs, all these are considered inconsequential so long as the FTs continue to come in hordes to ramp up their precious GDP numbers, in the name of 'national socioeconomic growth', but with the real intent of self-serving the PAP and its associates. We need not remind ourselves that GDP growth is impressive, so do ministerial salaries, but at the detriment of us the average Singaporeans to prove the case.

PAP now becomes the pervading entity over the State, and over the Singaporean citizens. The ultraliberal FT policy is simply one of the key instruments to ensure its continued political monopoly. Hence, whatever is the poll results reflecting the voices of the citizens, will PAP care? If it does, we wouldn't have seen and heard what the PAP is doing and talking about its FT policy since GE2011. Expect any change? My personal opinion is that we can put little or no hope into it. GE2011 has given PAP the mandate to push its FT policy down our throats, whether we like it or not. Only by GE2016 then you'll start seeing MIWs beginning to panic and attempt half-hearted efforts to do so-called 'damage control'.

But by then, Mr LHL, no matter how much apologies you can make, how much tears your ministers can bother to shed, the damage will have already been caused. Your party, not the FTs, failed us the people, the very ones who you should serve and whose interests you should safeguard. But to you MIWs, party interests are above the country's and the people's. I hope more Singaporeans wake up and see through all this facade.
