The Lee family continues to dazzle us with high profile anouncements lately. First Lee Kuan Yew opens up on GIC and now his millionaire son quits the biggest telecom firm in southeast asia.

This is begining to get interesting. No one really thinks that he will quit such a million dollars job. I have a feeling that he has read buddhism recently and begin to understand the futile pursuit of materialism. Accumulation of wealth may not make happy after all.

  2. Maybe he's about to get a 2 million dollar job...

  3. With the big recent retrenchment exercise and cost cutting measures in SingTel Singapore operation, looks like it may be difficult to continue the growth promised. So, maybe it is good time to cash out for his shares.....

it's inconceivable that someone of his standing would resign without having other plans at hand.
yet when asked, he said something to the effect that he has neither sought for, nor been offered, alternative employment.

sigh... why can't they just come out with it?
it's hardly likely he going to stand in some "unemployed" queue at MOM.

I am not surprised at all if he is...or perhaps getting another bigger share of the pie...

based on what we understand of the Lee family, something happened to warrant such a suprisingly quick exit. he will not likely to enter politics. it would be too easy for him if he wants to, but he will not. his lifestyle is too...should i say (rumoured)...flamboyant to be in politics.

Few reasons for a hasty retreat.

    1. Get lost when the going is good. Nice way to be remembered

    2. Get lost before SingTel loses another Lucas Chow who grew too tired waiting for LHY to vacate the seat.

    3. A scandal broke out internally. LHY lost whatever respect his subordinates reserved for his dad. Time to leave.

    4. A big M&A deal is in the offing. SingTel cannot be seen to be blatantly sleeping with the government.

I will go for 4. You take your pick.

Hm, a few mths ago, there's a problem with singtel at Australia's optus rite? Forgot wat's it about.

Oh, and we cun deny the possibilities of him getting in to politics. That's what one of my frend's dad speculated also. hehe.

And from my frend, an auditor point of view, when a CEO or group of board members resigned, it could be signs of red flag to a serious problem.

Duno which of those will be true.. We'll sit back and wait for the show.. get ready the popcorns..

I think something more sinister has happened. As you said the Lees do not do anything without good reasons. Something big will break soon. Watch out for it.

Well, to me the reason is simple, controlling communication and media is always a vital strategy but now with Temasek Holdings controlling Singtel with 54% shares, is there a need for LHY to be there? Whatever it is, I feel LHY will be doing something even bigger, something which Temasek Holdings is not having a control of now.

    that sounds logical.

Anything to do with NKF before the trial begins,

Remember Sis-in-law was also on Durai's side (article appeared on Today)

He will be Temasek biggest chief. This is papa's way to assuage the man for that's the only way for the old man to say: "Ah, my Loong - got power. My Yang - got money. What a way to leave my legacy behind. Haha..." In the mean time, us peasants have to start saving money to pay for more lawsuits and losses to be incurred by Temasek Holding. GST - 10%, ERP - to start the moment you leave the car park etc...

It's all speculation. Maybe I can have mine too: Lee Hsien Yang is involved in unspeakable scandals that he can no longer stay in Singtel.

Something very serious must have happened and pending to be announced. Might be something pertaining to o/s investments. Just curious who will be made the scape goat...

As mentioned earlier, I feel that LHY "will be doing something even bigger, something which Temasek Holdings is not having a control of now." Today's Straits Times carries a report that he had received several "calls", two of which are from DBS and GIC. Personally, this is a hint which will become a reality in 6 to 8 months time when they found the replacement CEO. Forget about DBS, GIC is the only "corporation" Temasek Holdings would never control. When that happens, either LHL, LKY or maybe both, would then relinquish their current GIC appointments when LHY is at the helm.

    correction to my earlier comment:
Should be "...with LHY at the helm" and not "when LHY is at the helm"....: )

  19. Daddy must have initiated the call for GIC. He must be thinking about how the shady GIC legacy can continue when he leaves for good.

Foreseeble the telco industry will be centered on wireless so fixed line installations will go down the drain. Singtel's asset will be worth naught. If you are CEO of singtel, would you ride the train into the pit?

I think GIC is the destination. When the old man goes, someone who is trusted must be left at the helm, otherwise skeletons in the cupboard might be revealed. If an unrelated person takes charge he or she might find some skeletons.

Maybe he wants to be Singapore's youngest President ahead of his dad.

  24. dont be nerd. lee hsien yang is a nice guy, if u ask me i'll say hes more talented than his brother.

i've seen the things he've done for singtel over the years and i don't think its a decision with many reasons behind it. if u ask me, it's more like he felt like he didnt want to do it anymore

and i HIGHLY doubt lee hsien yang will dab in politics ^_^

    my two cents worth
