Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang snubs Singapore style policies

Kyodo News - Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang on Monday concluded his three-day visit to Singapore in which he exchanged views on developments in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Noting Hong Kong has its advantages and special features, Mr Tsang said he will not copy Singaporean policies direct, adding that it is important Hong Kong is not complacent and conservative, and that people should plan strategically and act practically.

He said he admires how Singapore pushes forward mega infrastructure projects swiftly, but noted that Hong Kong and Singapore are different politically.

"We have different political backgrounds, systems and values," Tsang told reporters.

China's official Xinhua News Agency reported Tsang met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday and discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on developments in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Tsang also called on Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew respectively on Monday afternoon, Xinhua reported.

  1. what he is saying is:-

    1. the singapore government has quick turn around at getting huge infrastructure projects off the ground... which is great.

    2. given a political system where the government has absolute control on parliament and a culture which crushes opposition and non-conformist views, even a moron could do this... which is well.. not that great

The main diference between Singaporeans and Hong Kongers is that the people from Hong Kong have guts and are not easily intimidated. Whenever they feel strongly about something they have the guts to stand up and voice their opinion. The Singaporeans would just moan and groan and bitch but will never stand up for what they believe.

  3. generally very true... and i share the same sentiments. There's really something deterring such a behaviour, it acts like a mould and every school has it.

Is it in the genes that Singaporeans are by nature cowardly and stupid? Ao Li says that the only persons he admires in Singapore are Lee Kuan Yew and a local female singer, her name I can't recall now.

Putting the old man with a singer together...what a joke...

Well, Singaporeans are used to the iron-fist methods ever since donkey decades ago...hence it has turned into a trend...sad...and with the 'sue' and 'bankruptcy' factors how much these islanders would dare to do?

let's see if the hong konger makes such a fuss if he and his entire family is taken through lee's judicial system. not so "brave" anymore huh? even the students from tian an men are now too busy with amassing material wealth to care about basic liberties. you can mould a population. this is a topic that old man lee is highly familiar with.
