It is not easy arguing with an apparent truth but I will try when it is half truth.
Every country has historical and current dynamic.
You mentioned something but you forget something else.
LanFang republic was derived from hakka mining settlement. The Kailimantan sultanate introduced these Hakka workers because they were cheaper, better and faster. Sound familiar?
The rest was history, they took over and started their republic.
Now, you presented the picture of LanFang as weak, no, that was not true they were strong like Singapore, and sultanate around seek their protection, then why did it fall?
The reason is precisely because they kept the ruling elite within the Hakka family. Sound familiar?
Well, unlike you, I will present a fairer picture, it is because of European expansionism, where not a single country in Asia was spared, and such is the example you quoted to support your argument of strong defense?
Many countries with larger geographical extent fell to European expansionism during those times: to small countries like Netherlands.
Here is the real lesson:
It is not about your Demak or LanFang, there are umpteen examples of such and some have excellent defense, their failure is because they do not have progressive mind to understand that people need to come together to create, it is not just about meritocracy! It is also about the freedom to do away with redundant establishment, like the PAP, even when it preaches meritocracy while aiding and abetting autocracy.
European reformation, new knowledge enlightenment, renaissance, political reformation and renewed military thinking enabled them to increase their total capacity to survive.
These new realities caused the fall of myriad small kingdoms in Asia, not because these small kingdoms did not have strong defenses.
No one will ever argue defending a country with its military might is not critical to the survival of Nations, in fact that is not even a beginning.
For any country to survive the first rule is to change the unchangeable and to sustain such total capacity to survive, military is merely one of them but not the most important. In Singapore case, PAP is the hindrance to the buildup of such total capacity.
Move to our context, our core productive capacity and saving are currently going to military, there you will find the beginning of a whole new set of reality.
A Nation cannot survive by guns alone, agree not?
A Nation cannot survive by tired people, agree not?
Then can a Nation be sustained by tired people manning those guns?
Right now we have a defense expenditure which is amongst the heaviest in the world per capita, on the shoulder of every man, woman and child, do remember that woman and child are not combatants, that is the defending of the country, a tired people, whose labour force is the most intensively worked in the world, not every man, woman and children is born Spartan, agree not?
Now, just the day before, you tell them that each has their role and NS is not the issue, will this not mean the load of such heavy burden falling yet further on an already smaller group of people, agree not?
On top of that, you have disproportionately paid leader on the shoulders of these men!
And now you, and your PAP, sitting on top of this heap of human miseries shouting let us be united and move forward!
Like PAP, you are expired.
Thinkall
That's why he got onto MM Lee's coat-tail. Shouting about the case study of the minister's hakka sad clan, standing on the shoulder of giant. Why don't he and comrades TPL go stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the SMC and fight like a real soldier. So that when GCT claimed that all their PAP candidates are so solid, he will have some evidence / actions to back up his words instead. Right now, our kate-spade sage has gone to international press, giving her tainted eggs on the candidate face.
ReplyDeletehttp://nyti.ms/ggB3cp
I think he is suffering from an overdose of "Penis Enhancement Cream". Or perhaps he has been an understudy with Mah Bow Tan on the wrong asset enhancement program..who knows.
ReplyDeleteThat was why after I saw his YPAP "rally" speech in hokkien beng style and (lack of) substance.
ReplyDeleteI thought (and still think) we're really scr*wed if this is the quality we have leading the 3/4G SAF.
Majulah Singapura.
Wats the diff of having a pair of shorts on or swimming trunks so long it's clean? This is not about self discipline but social etiquette. Maybe he is a practical person rather than to abide by some snobbish or hypocritical etiquette? Just trying to present another angle?
ReplyDeleteJust like he became a general without going into battle, he is now an MP without any electioneering experience!
ReplyDeleteconfirm. i am 9th mono. he also lost his NVG during another exercise and some platoons had to go back and look for it.
ReplyDeleteI have been a neighour of Chan Chun Sing for about 3-4 yrs in a condo before he even moved to his new landed property in Bishan. All the while he does not socialized with all the residents. He is always stay himself, He does not smile, he does not really response to you even you greeted him. This was all before he was even promoted to Maj General & chief of army. What I am saying here, he is definitely not a people oriented person, an good MP needs to have all this basic skill-sets which I cannot see his has any. No doubt he has good paper qualifications this means nothing. Also with his luck he is under the MM Lee KY (TP) GRC not contested/not tested, he is also named as one of the high PAP high flyers. To me this is very wrong of how PAP selects their party candidates - only based on papers qualifications ? Is this really what S'pore voters looking for ? PAP MPs today are all from army or NTUC union backgrounds. What experience they have ? What kind of real hardship they have undergone ? This is sad. to all voters vote wisely what kind of MPs you want to lead you for the next 5 years, the choice is clear, when come May 5 '2011.
ReplyDeleteActually, Chan Chun Sing is not the only misfit. There is also Lim Hng Khiang who failed miserably in the Finance and Health Ministries. Now he is failing in the Ministry of Trade & Industry. Look at the large number of foreign workers and the many Singaporeans who belong to the "working poor" class. "Working poor" is a term used recently by Lim Boon Heng to describe Singaporeans who work long hours and yet could not make ends meet. (I am suprised that opposition candidates have not expounded on this theme in their rally speeches.) Anyway, the biggest irony is that Lim Hng Khiang still has a high paying job and even accused Tan Jee Say of "splitting hairs" when he himself does not have much hair to talk about!!
ReplyDeleteNow, this is an absolute conspiracy. The Defence Ministry must convene a Board of Inquiry and court martial all guilty parties who subterfudge military records.
ReplyDeleteThe Qing dynasty, representing the last of China's once-great dynasties, fell and took all of China down with them because of corruption, self-indulgence, an arrogant leadership and a failure to pay attention to its people in a changing world. It had a great army but its people's hearts were not in it. Therein lies a parable.
ReplyDeleteFew point remain to be address:-
ReplyDelete1. Lower Income marrying foreigner difficult to obtain PR. No reason given for rejection. Understand from a speech that lower income spouse with no economical contribution will be a burden to our society.
2. Somebody talk about sugar cane country.
3. Why should we leave our country if we do not agreed with the system. We should change the system. This country is belong to every body.
Could the next parliament assures Singaporeans that there will be NO MORE NEPOTISM in our LITTLE BIG SWOLLEN RED DOT? Weighing my Citizen's Rights, all Ministers must declare All Assets (Local and Foreign) in the interests of Transparency and Good Governance.
ReplyDeleteThis is to Protect All Singaporeans to curb anyone MILKING the System.
I do not agree with your idea that European Renaissance is a justifiable reason for them to dominate South East Asian nations. Their intent is quite clear and they certainly are not looking to improve the lot in the colonies but to reap whatever profits from them. It's the same reason for the Japanese expansion in World War II. How many innocent people do they kill along the way.
ReplyDeleteCertainly, the South East Asian countries then were weak militarily and politically.
But you have the point that PAP has become arrogant. To think nothing of increasing the Ministers' salaries and yet continue to do very little to alleviate the old and poor who have to work as toilet cleaners or clearing dishes for a S$800 per month pay, without CPF and without sick leave... This is not acceptable. Yet it is ok for Temasek to lose millions.
Wah Chan Chun Sing! Your Engrand veeeery powderful. I want my chieren to grow up and talk like you leh!!! Then oso can make millions every year to sit and pangsai in parliament. Aisay… steady lah brudder beng!!!!!!! Impress!
ReplyDeleteApologise for getting the name of Ex-NTUC name incorrectly. It should read as Phey Yew Kok.
ReplyDeleteMust share this here. My friend bought a house near BG Chan's place and was told that she is not allowed to build another level to her private property because his view will be blocked. SO you see dear Singaporeans, we are already victims of arrogance and this abuse of power is already in play....if we don't vote wisely, then the CCS of Singapore will crush us and for the benefit of themselves, treat us with oppression and contempt.
ReplyDeleteHow much I agree with you. Do they mean that only PAP can deliver while those who are standing against them are just hopeless and good for nothing? I beg to differ. Have they forgotten how Singapore came about? They too started without any track record but with lots of underlying tactics to rid of those who can also contribute. There were MPs who failed. For example, Housing Minister Teh, NTUC Phey Yew Hock. How shallow of them to think this way.Hey! it is time to wake up. Get down from your high horse. When it comes to the crunch, Singaporeans will rise to the challenge. Do not belittle us by saying only the PAP can and not the opposition.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you davecgs01, it's time to stop all the arrogance and complacency of the ministers. Their fat salary of 1.5million per year is not matched by their performance and track record. In an American MNC, if performance does not measure up, they would be sacked with immediate effect.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually unbearable - the amount of people whose command of English is about as good as a 2 year old's ability to do Fourier transforms.
ReplyDeleteIf this is what Singapore is becoming, it sure ain't a pretty sight.
Interestingly, he has had very good reviews from his men in the army.
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget that to have a high rank in the army, you need to be able to win your men's trust and take care of them. Even with a scholarship.
Instead of calling him names just because he's from the PAP, you should examine him properly as an individual. And if the "new government" places him in jail without trail, won't they be doing exactly what they're scolding the PAP for doing? Jeez... =_=
Few people know this, but, when Chan Chun Sing was commanding officer of 2 SIR ie 2nd Singapore Infantry Regiment, he failed the ATEC Evaluation. the enemy managed to enter the command post and "killed" him. But as he was a scholar, the umpire forced this occurrence to be expunged from the record. This was around the year 1999, the 9th Mono Intake if I am not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteDear Former chief of Army, General Chan(Res); I was very proud of having served my National Service but feel digusted that you did not do the battle or win any single votes at the elections, I wonder if we had to go to war in the last decade , would u be able to lead us or you need a minister to helm you? Please show that you are worth your salt in the next general election.
ReplyDeletePAP is only a political party name, let focus more on the peoples that is serving US the Singaporean. From the 60 to 80 under PAP have make Singapore number 1 and it benefited us!
ReplyDeleteBut now see with your own eye, feel with your own heart! The PAP now is only interested in being Number 1! Even if it mean sacrificing us! They have forgotten that to be number 1 or 2 their first priority is to bring benefit to us the Singaporean!
Think before you vote!
He was from RJC if I remember correctly from OCS days.. .. fkxx nerd
ReplyDeleteHe was from RJC if I remember correctly from OCS days.. .. fkxx nerd
ReplyDeleteWell done! Tell our Fxxking General friend to wake up his Fxxking idea!!!
ReplyDeleteThis guy acts like a total clown during his speech. Can Buddy-buddy with his clown prince master and Tin Dong Kate Spade.
ReplyDeleteChan Chun Seng,
ReplyDeleteFor an ordinary man in the street speaking like you did at press time is understandable. But you, have wasted our tax payer's money giving you an education and military training only to have you speak like a supper ah beng - you are a piece of work. It is not funny I tell you. You are a bad example. Did not do us proud.
General , sir - what is worst is you do not know your history and then swagger around and bullshit your way around thinking that no what will know.Go and see the movie Patton, one of the most famous U.S. General who before any epic battle, first study the history in depth of the country he plans to attack. You are an utter disgrace discrediting our Arm Forces in the process. I won't have you defend me if my life depended on it.
I am extremely disappointed by the way our two star general presented himself recently on TV. Young Man,there are a lot more Senior Singaporeans above you. So, don't show your arrogance again. I felt extremely disgusted by your gesture on TV.
ReplyDeleteScholars - there are plentiful worldwide! Just stand open the gates of Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and an endless list, there are tons! So, please , show some respect the next time.
I sincerely hope the new Parliament will immediately review policies on the promotion of key defense portfolio holders - mandating all to have actual battle or front-line experience, such as a minimum of two year tour siting in the world's problematic spots such as Libya , Afghanistan, Iraq, and other terrorists spot before conferring our Generals. They should be more ready by then and will gain my respect. No offense if offended.
What is Chan Chun Sing's realtionship with the Lee family?
ReplyDeleteHas anyone thought about that?
4G Leaders - He is one of them and so protected in Tanjong Pagar GRC.
If he is that capable why not send him to Tampines to fight and win a seat rather than stay in the patticoat? Something's fishy.
He may be the next Prime Minister... That's why he is so protected.
He may be the relative and stand in till Lee's grandson is ready for the 5G Prime Minister.
Think.
BG (NS) Chan, Please explain the real reason why Qing Dynasty are unable to protect the state? And also please explain the real reason why Qing Dynasty collapse as in is it really Empress Cixi's fault or even cause by earlier emperor like Qianlong Emperor.
ReplyDelete"ok how many of you think singapore will be around for the next five year! hands up!.. wah not bad not bad.. 40 year!? aisei.. not bad ah.. okok.. 100years?!?! ...WA! BUAY PAI AH... 200years?!?!??! $%#$%$%#... from my mental calculation ah, got at least 100 average lah. goodgood.."
ReplyDeleteAbove is the first part of speech he made on stage.
All i can say: Walkover? SAD AH.
Who are these "men"?
ReplyDeleteBe HONEST ad TRUTHFUL to thyself
ReplyDeleteWhen one becomes emotional due to some personal reasons
one's thoughts become contaminated
All military personnel or ex-military personnel above the rank of colonel shouldn't be allowed into civilian politics. Military and civilian affairs should be kept separate.
ReplyDeleteIn a war, how many people do you think he can inspire to fight and defend Singapore without his rank and position? ... hundreds, thousands or millions? Gimme a number then we talk.
ReplyDeletehumble or not, he is a stooge and a dog. he would not go against his masters.
ReplyDeletehib
ReplyDeleteHow can any moral person be neutral to the suffering of others and all the more your own fellow citizens? When minister of health laughingly said that he only paid $8 for his medical, didn't he know that whatever cost he saves he is passing it to someone else directly or indirectly? The burden of medical cost to be shouldered by who? Not by the rich who getting paid millions, but by the millions getting paid peanuts. On top of it, the poor are piled with other burden to shoulder and we are talking about life basic nessecities like food, transport and a roof over your head. We are crushed, left with nothing to defend our family, our loved ones. You think we will still pick up a weapon when there is nothing left to defend for?
ReplyDeleteShare with us your thoughts and views for the future of singapore on the upcoming elections @ www.singaporematters.com
ReplyDeleteTo me a person no matter how good education background means ZERO, if he does not have some sort of self discipline. To let you know he actual swam in swimming pool with his army PT kit on with his family - not once but many times. He is not aware of self hygiene. All swimming pool users should have basic attire like at least a swim trunk, however it was a sad sight to see an Ex Army Chief & also potential MPs plus so called high flyers does not even have this basic common sense. This is sad.To me PAP needs not just to shorlist their candidate through their background but also understands what are more important factors like daily life styles & common practices that even a kid understands...
ReplyDeleteWell though and good substances..
ReplyDeleteWe been colonised and we still living in some form of colonised nation. The undercurrent is strong and moving away.
United we stand..........
wah! great piece of work, wish i could write and analyse like that. Almost conned by CCS half truth!
ReplyDeleteChan Chun Sing is a very humble man, albeit his President scholar history. My friend's son was under him in the army. Apparently, despite his rank and all, he's very in touch with what's happening on the ground.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with the poster "Someone" that this post is rather anti-PAP... though actually this blog didn't promise to be objective in the first place.
Nonetheless, thanks for keeping the updates!
Recently I saw a toddler crawling up a flight of steps at a public library. Although his father was standing beside him, there was a risk that he could fall down and break his head anytime. Perhaps that was how his Burmese father tried to train him to be the future army chief and political leader of Burma.
ReplyDeleteNature is less kind in training the fittest to survive. For example, after hatching from the eggs on the beach, baby turtles have to crawl all the way to the sea by themselves. Many of them will die on the way before they can make it to the deep end of the ocean in their lives. Potential office-holders should be "thrown into the deep end" immediately before rather than after their election because by going through such a gruelling selection process, Singapore willl get the strongest and fittest office-holders.
Chan should show himself to be a real soldier by fighting his way to office through an SMC rather than a GRC. If he survives the "crucible of fire", he will be worthy of his arrogance as former army chief otherwise he is just one of the "political pupae" brought en masse to Parliament through the cocoon of GRC.
Finally, does he need to be reminded by his humble master to be a servant of the people?
Good analysis. Just taking craps from history and talking big and sounding like expert will backfire badly. The tone and the shouting. I think better go back to army.
ReplyDeleteDude, CCS looks like those nerdy kids in RJC, y'know. Maybe you should ask his classmates.
ReplyDeleteIf you dunno what he's talking abt, how can you judge his substance?
ReplyDeleteThat general cannot understand history. Obviously.
it's kind of obvious you're anti-PAP. while i'm not exactly a fan of it either, let's try to keep things objective. and people reading this, read it with a pinch of salt
ReplyDeletechunsing, please, quit embarrassing yourself, and humble yourself already, you have absolutely no idea what you're hollering about, and you're like a product of a photocopied script from the 1960's. Enough of you already - the fools who vote for you shall be in the vast minority.....by the tone of your speech, no one who has been through the SAF as an NS service-person shall cast or let's say, waste their precious votes on a Clown like you.
ReplyDeleteAcademics notwithstanding, you're text book smart, but in practical and pragmatic terms you're so far in the negative scale I hope the new government will invoke the ISA to jail you indefinitely without trial - like the next 100 years.
though i dunno what he's talking abt but i find that he's rather down to earth, albeit hao lian, compared to other PAP members. as a person, i don't think he's that bad, can't be sure though. too bad he's in PAP.
ReplyDeleteyes, PAP expiry date was long ago. we should throw it out now its turned bad.
ReplyDeleteCCS you're gonna hate yourself forever for doing what you did at the rally.
ReplyDeletethe evidence is on tv for all to see.
ReplyDeleteSome are saying not to believe this anti-PAP site, that he is a humble man etc. Well, even if we don't believe this site, there are those who have seen Chan Chun Sing in person. The evidence is on TV for all to see, just like with Tin Pei Ling Kate Spade!
ReplyDeleteHey CCS supporter, if everybody wore T-shirt and PT shorts, how do we know it is clean? That's why nobody is allowed to wear them. Rules are rules.
ReplyDeleteI saw your other post saying he is a "humble man". Don't pretend to 'present another angle'.
Like all scholars, CCS is fasttracked to become minister one day. He will punch his card in various ministries, starting with MCYS. Unless he screws up big time, his ministerial position is secured. His priority is not the people but govt policies - he will be a highly paid mouthpiece of PAP. They are nothing but followers who will perpetuate the PAP rule in return for out-of-the-world salary. That's how our political system works and if Singaporeans don't see this and vote a stronger voice, there is no hope for our future.
ReplyDeleteBelle, it should be 'the number of people' and not 'the amount of people' as people are countable! Try to be respectful of what fellow citizens want to say unless you do not believe in democracy for those with less than a powerful command of the English language, which mind you, is after all, the language of the colonizers.
ReplyDeleteThank you Wealthconsultant for that invaluable point. This is currently the practice in many developed countries--for when they come in and when they leave government; and if you start a campaign to demand this, I trust it will catch like wild fire, and I will join you!
ReplyDeleteYes, his words and actions so far do not come across as humble. Hearing him speak makes me think his pride is misplaced, and his confidence should be reserved till his actions in political office speak for themselves.
ReplyDeleteHow to cmpare topeng dehuai or yang dezhi??!
ReplyDeletethis idiot tries to act like he knows everything and speaks so boastfully. not fit to be mp let alone minister.
ReplyDeletenever fought a war. believe he will call mama help me, when he faces the front line. why not send him to iraq and see if he can still talk so loud and big. surely he will pee and shiver.
i don't think i want him even to be a supervisor for my workers. A-team calibre? my foot. young childish immature moron. that's chan
