PAP's 'Foreign Talent' Policy Backfires

The polling date comes a week after the dividend payouts. Not a surprise isn't it? This is the same over the last few elections. This should be stopped. Isn't this the same as buying votes as it would have a direct impact on decisions at the ballot box especially from the lower income and the less educated.

The ruling party seems adamant on bringing in hordes of foreigners on the pretext of doing Singapore and Singaporeans good. Is that really the case or are only a few Singaporeans who have strong shareholding interest in many companies the only ones to truly benefit.

The ruling party has become too arrogant and cocky for its own good. So I guess it is about time for a change. The ruling party should stay if not for the sole reason of their having control of so many things being in power for such a long time and their sudden departure may cause serious disruptions in many areas. In any case, all disruptions are caused by the out-going forces more than anything or anyone else. History would have many examples of this.

Nonetheless, the opposition must be elected into office in many numbers, at least 30 or more to really make a difference in policy matters and to truly keep a check on the ruling party which has gone out of touch with the ground and seems to truly believe, albeit erroneously, that they are GOD sent to rule Singapore any which way they want and forever.

With the looming elections I do hope to see a more mature and vibrant discussion of divergent issues close to the heart of the majority of the electorate - the middle and lower income groups. It would also be good if there is no name calling and or character assassination as has been the case with the ruling party whenever someone capable comes along as a serious contender and whom they see as a threat. This is also one reason capable people had also stayed away from
politics.

Some may wonder why some good and capable people from the private sector do not join the PAP. Simply because they are responsible and conscientious people who do not share the same platform as the PAP. They have alternative views on the state of the country's affairs and do not want to have anything to do with MM's way of doing things which may have been valid at some point in our past but seems to continue till today with his replacements.

Why are people now joining the opposition? They are more certain that we now have a discerning population who have been repeatedly deceived by the ruling party with empty promises on matters close to their hearts and have indicated through the windmill that opposition in serious numbers is urgently needed to check on the ruling party's excesses and arrogance?

I believe that Singaporeans are not against foreigners per se but see the deliberate and structured import by the ruling party, of an eventual 2.5 million foreigners into our midst, the deliberate or incidental lowering of our wages through seemingly lax immigration and employment policies and practices and the overcrowding of our tiny island is not the way to go forward. This clearly was not the raison d'etre for the PAP government to have been elected into office in the very first place, not so?
