"Our residents know us. They know the track record. We deliver. And also we do not believe in making empty promises or big promises. So we are quite happy to stand on our record, and let the residents be the judge. Who can deliver and who can they trust. Ultimately, I think that is what this election in this area will be about."
Track record and trust what he said? Lets recap what happened after 2006 :
- GST raised 1 July 2007
- Tuitions fees in University, Polytechnics & ITE raised
- More ERP gantries installed
- ERP rates went up
- Healthcare cost increased
- HDB price increased
- Immigration went up
- PUB bills increased
- Salaries of ministers went up
- Public transport fare increased
- MRTs got more packed
- COE/Car price increased
- Viewing of World Cup charge increased
- Retail price increased in tandem with PAP rental rates of entities under their control
- Told us to send our elders to JB
- etc.
I'd say they have a lousy track record and I don't trust them.
you forgot to add (1) YOG budget overspent with no redeemable benefits (2) Increased prostitutions, faily debts, vices after building Casino
ReplyDeleteWhere is the Sport Stadium promised before the last election?
ReplyDeleteLook here for an even more extensive list of increases (ministerial salaries included!):

Vivian is contesting in Holland-Bukit Timah which is mainly rich people. These white collar rich folks can easily afford all those increases in costs you speak about. I know because I am one of these fat cats. Our children go to the same Primary, Secondary schools as Vivian and his colleagues. We are invited to sit on the boards of GLCs. So why on earth would we want to to rock the f**king boat and vote in a gay, a disgruntled former senior civil servant and a shrink. We rich folks stick together.

ReplyDeleteI am very interested to know how actually the yog budget when over by millions of dollars.
ReplyDeleteDr Balakrishnan also makes a big blunder in just focusing on giving the carrots (salary review, professional development, sabbatical, etc) to social workers when the social service sector consists of other professionals such as speech therapist, occupational therapist, counsellors, administrators, music therapist, nurses, support staff. It' is so blatant and yet as a minister he can't see it. And this creates alot of dissstisfaction amongst the workers in the social service sectors. Of course his ministry's defense is it would slowly filter down to other social service workers. But before this even filter to other social service workers, another new scheme is announced for social workers. Go through the newspaper over the last 5 years and you will see that all the benefits in the social service sector is only for the social workers. It is similar to the PAP motto - upgrading only for PAP wards. Not for SIngaporeans. In the social service scene, it is not about the sector but about social workers. As if all the other workers and professionals in the social service sector are dead and not contributing!!!!
ReplyDeletei got enough of all these nonsense from PAP.
ReplyDeletei think electorate need to send a clear signal to them this election for them to wake up that S'pore is not going to accept their
- exorbitant salaries
- rising HDB prices
- rising school fees
- reduced places for Singaporeans in NUS, SMU & NTU
- reduced places for Singaporeans in top schools
- reduced job opportunities for Singaporeans
Oct 2002: In response to calls to allow bar-top dancing in pubs, Minister of State Vivian Balakrishnan tells Parliament, “If you want to dance on the bar-top, some of us will fall off the bar-top. Some of us will die as a result. Usually it is a girl with a short skirt who’s dancing on it, who may attract some insults from other men. The boyfriend starts fighting. Some people will die. Blood will be shed for liberalizing the policy.”
ReplyDeletePAPsters are indeed intelligent. And we are told that they are the most intelligent people to rule over us. And we pay (our tax dollars) to keep such "intelligent" people in power. How intelligent are we..... Please do the right thing on May 7. Please show the PAPsters we will no longer be stupid like them. Please, please.....
You might have misinterpreted what Mr Balakrishnan said. I think he refers to his track record as an MP in the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. How the country is doing should not be used specifically to assess how he performed as an MP. We're not voting for ministers here, just MPs.
ReplyDeleteMany of us dont like his cavalier atttitude over the busting of the YOG budget, and the welfare aid.
