
In a statement on Sunday, Ms Chong said Mountbatten is very close to her heart as she had lived there as a child and in the early years of her marriage.
She said she wants to use her candidacy in Mountbatten as an avenue for residents to have their own voice in Parliament.
47-year-old Ms Chong has been a lawyer for 22 years.
She plans to address issues such as the growing income disparity between the rich and the poor, healthcare expenses of the elderly, as well as the rising costs of living.
Ms Chong earned her law degree from the United Kingdom and was called to the English Bar in 1986. She also holds a Masters Degree in Corporate and Commercial Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She regularly offers her legal services to lower-income Singaporeans and was an Honorary Secretary of a church council in Katong from 2006 to 2010.
Since 2008, she has been serving in the management council of a residential estate in Siglap, comprising over 1,000 units.
Ms Chong is married and has four children, who are between 12 and 21 years old.
