ReplyDeleteDue to the piling work, around it not sure...how critical it is.
Alex has deleted his blog Utopia8787. The last time he commented was that government agencies was accessing his blog based on the stats and as a NSF, IF they ask him to shut it down, he will. Yep, NS is also a Taboo subject. Singaporeans have to learn to shut the fuck up according to our learned civil servants.
ReplyDeleteNS is critical for the defence of Singapore. This we must all realise. We are living in the middle of "nowhere" please be matured in your international understanding. Best friends today may be bitter enemies tomorrow this is a fact of life. Unless anyone can guarantee that will not happen we can then stop NS. What is more important is the restriction to alternative thinking that will prevent creative thinnking to be expressed and the use of NS as such potentially. But luckily other than the comply or be punished mentality mind setting, I am fully for NS and will not debate on the need due to the above risks. Once again there is no free lunch in life. You need to pay for it sooner or later. NS will be a minimal cost alternative trust me but it should not have any significant links to politics this I must add. I sware to preserve and protect the constitution with my life this is what every NS men had pledged. Unless you did not say it you are excused. Else mean what you say and do what you say.
ReplyDeleteAre we not a First World Country or is this just a facade? We should adapt and learn from modern countries. NS has been in existence since 1967 and the world (Asia in particular) has changed economically and politically. In the 1960s/70s yes, we need to protect ourselves but today, the situation has changed. We should adapt to the current environment. Countries such as Taiwan, Germany, Denmark, Finland had reduced their conscription to less than a year. The only countries with two years conscription are Israel and South Korea and these two countries are under military alert. Is Singapore at war with Malaysia? This is 2008, not 1968.Let's get out of the Siege mentality.
ReplyDeletehaha how many of us truely meant what we pledged?just because i sweared dun necessary means i meant it. cos if dun say sure get whacked or penalise but if u say den they ignore u so thats why even if pple swear, it is not usually wat they mean
ReplyDeleteif we take out the regulars from the list... those people who died while serving "2 Years" of NS aren't really alot and most of those NSF died of natural causes.
ReplyDeleteCan't really say NS cause all these death.
One must ask as to whether MINDEF has been forthcoming with any information pertaining to deaths and incidents in training of NSmen over the past 20 years or at least 10 years. Do we have any Freedom of Information Act? Are parents able to access information on this or do we just accept MINDEF's assurances that they will take care of their sons! Is there any guarantees? What about suicides involving NSmen? If the information is limited to what the MSM offers then, god save our sons. Have you any relative's or friend's son whose hand was blown off due to a faulty grenade? Was it in the MSM? If no, why not?
