PM Lee Takes No Chances with Public Relations Management:
At the lunchtime rally in UOB Plaza on Wednesday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressed the issue of opposition MPs in Parliament. He said that if the opposition were to hold 10 to 20 seats in Parliament, he would have to spend much more time thinking what was the right way to "fix" them. What PM meant by his remark was that if there were many more opposition MPs in Parliament, the government and opposition would spend all their time and energies countering each other, and Singapore would be worse off for it. He used direct language to get this important point across to a mass rally crowd. If the exact words he used offended, he is sorry.
Chen Hwai Liang
Press Secretary to Prime Minister
5 May 2006
We are also wondering what the Prime Minister meant, when he said that he was intending to "buy my supporters votes"? How much is he intending to pay fellow Singaporeans just so they would vote for him? With the oil prices sky-rocketting, I am sure we would be delighted to have this clarified prior to the election date.
We are surprised at your arrival, Mr. Chen. Is this the last resort, the lowest of the lowest set of actions the PAP would like to undertake on the last day? Is the PAP really that desperate? By making this direct post, this is a testament to Singaporeans that the opposition parties are indeed doing a hell of job! If you think this slight action was a means to damage control, you're sorely mistaken.
We're also wondering why the Prime Minister doesn't announce this sudden turn about in the media. Did you forget retired generals hold the current media in hostage? I am sure as the Press Secretary, you could easily find a slot on CNA to make known this dramatic epiphany. I am sure Singaporeans who were indeed offended, would like to be informed on this.
Oh, lastly, Mr. Chen, did you forget that the PAP recently banned advertisement on political parties on the Internet? Just wondering, could you also clarify this ban? I would think your post would qualify as a political advertisement for the PAP, no?
Damage Recovery !!!
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for one more about Goh Chok Tong "exposing" Chiam See Tong having no funds.
www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/206641/1/.html
Goh Chok Tong has no moral. Just like all PAP MPs. Name him as Inderjit Singh No: 2!!!!
I hope Opposition (or non-PAP) will get at least 41% this round, & at least 1 GRC + 2 Singles. Am I asking for too much?
ReplyDeleteLKY can afford to be arrogant. He has tremendous goodwill built up over these years and can afford to lose some.
ReplyDeleteHowever, LHL has not yet proven himself. The ability to demonstrate humility, take criticism, show respect for the opponent, learn to debate on a level playing field and demonstrate genuine compassion for the weakest member of the electorate is of paramount importance to succeed.
Unfortunately he nor his other PAP candidates are doing this. This will be the reason for his downfall. The people are simply fed up and like all things Singaporean there is a tipping point and I fear we have crossed this.
Tell your boss this, Mr Press Secretary!
You meant to say the Press Secretary sent this message to this blog? Can someone explain whats going on? I read the apology over @ CNA online.
ReplyDeleteSo what do you think? The webmaster asking for comments and risking arrest or closure under the podcast ban?
ReplyDeletePAP would have wished they had earlier allow podcast so that they can enter into the sparring ring
There isn't really much to comment here. The omnipotent prime minister is unable to apologize for his personal mistakes and requires a messenger (I stopped myself from using a more condescending term as I understand that Mr Chan is merely doing his job) to do it on his behalf.
ReplyDeleteThis is typical of all PAP MPs. They have convinced themselves that this is beneath them. This is also why they always have an entourage of groupies accompanying them making sure that their menial tasks are taken care of.
I didn't see this personally so maybe someone who has can verify it. When LKY was told by the panel of young audience on a recent television program that some people taught he was arrogant, his response was "if I am arrogant, why I am sitting here with you answering your questions?". If this account was true, he just shot himself in the foot!
(a) PM Lee is not replying himself; it's his press sec. this speaks alot of his sincerity. anyway mr low asked PM lee to reply and not his press sec.
ReplyDelete(b) It says "the government and opposition would spend all their time and energies countering each other". Well he cannot say that of the opposition since he is not the opposition - I'm sure WP or SDA or SDP will not use ALL their time to tackle the government since they will look after the constituency as well. But here, the government has admitted that they will use ALL their time! We are paying the million dollar salaried ministers for FIXING THE OPPOSITION since they will use ALL their time to do so.
(c)"Singapore would be worse off for it" - what does he mean when he says worse off? Opposition speaks for the people but in the end more speaking up for the people means worse off - again no respect for voters choice and telling us that it is worse off to speak up more!
(d) Mr Lee used "direct language" - this is the most ironic. if it were that direct, there would be no need for clarification and there wont be misunderstanding on the opposition's part! he obviously used INDIRECT language.
another thing to add.. from spend "much more time" thinking what was the right way to "fix" them to spend "all their time" and energies countering each other just makes things worse. at first, it was just spending much more time. now govt spends ALL their time countering the opposition; FIXING them.
ReplyDeleteThis statement is merely as a response to the Worker's Party request for Mr LHL to clarify the word "fix".
ReplyDeleteSort of damage control exercise. He isn't really sorry and don't want to appear as if he is sorry and hence implying he did something wrong.
You meant to say the Press Secretary sent this message to this blog? Can someone explain whats going on? I read the apology over @ CNA online.
ReplyDelete1:19 PM SGT
Yes, the Press Secretary is apparently bloghopping today! You can see the original in the comment box of the 4.42am post.
Also, I was just wondering what you were refering to regarding the apology. Please post the website, thank you.
There is a related article about CSJ and GCT in the "Can you really, really trust your PAP MP?" post.
ReplyDeleteThese kinds of gaffes and amateur mistakes (the Opposition have made some too) reflect lack of savvy among our political operators. You'd never catch Lee Kuan Yew making mistakes like these.
ReplyDeleteNow, the question is why do they lack skill as politicians, orators and statemen?
The answer is because for too long they developed in an atmosphere lacking competition. They were deprived of the thrust and parry of political sparring and the chance to hone their skills.
With opposition, the standard of our politicians and level of our politics can only rise.
I've attached the link for convenience:-
ReplyDeleteCan you really, really trust your PAP MP?
Explaining Mr Lee's remark, his press secretary said Mr Lee had meant to say that if there were many more opposition MPs in Parliament, the government and opposition would spend all their time and energies countering each other, and Singapore would be worse off for it.
ReplyDeleteMr Lee has to explain through his secretary. This ought not to have happened. He is my prime minister and I expect perfect standards from him. The opposition according to Lee Kuan Yew is not up to the mark. Lee Hsien Loong is and therefore I am disappointed that he has to explain through his secretary what he meant.
Would the government and the opposition spend “all their time and energies countering each other”?
Does Parliament meet every day? Heaven help us if it does. Parliament meets from time to time.
Do we have that many issues to take our time every day? Then heaven help us again, because if there are so many issues then we are certainly sunk.
If we have to debate everyday, we will not be able to survive. But that is not the case, as the facts will confirm.
"Mr Lee used direct language to get this important point across to a mass rally crowd and is sorry if the words had offended anyone. - CNA /ct"
For info, PM Lee said those words and smiled, what do you think?
I expect my prime minister to be more careful. He sues without hesitation. So he should be careful. I am sure he thinks carefully before he speaks. So what do we have to make out of this
This is the worst damage control I have seen from a supposingly reputable 1st World Goverment. Why so?
ReplyDelete1.I think some lawyer maybe crafted out this statement. Not sincere. (Should have at least book an appointment with Low and ask him to vet for him)
2. Did not apologised personally. Not sincere.
3. Saying sorry also must explain!
4. It's a serious offence, possibly a crime to fix Member of the Paliament.
He means that he has to waste time thinking for a week before he can come up with an appropriate "sound byte" (terminology courtesy of LKY) to portray the opposition MPs in a bad light. :>
ReplyDeleteWell, i suppose it was more a clarification, but he did say he's sorry if the words had offended anyone... It sure did offend me! Wow, press secretary make statement to blogs... thats interesting...

ReplyDeleteIs kt the press secretary? Just wondering... :)
ReplyDeletesome1 is obviously talking to himself on the blog ~ deleting posts tat he deems undesirable on the website( against the PAP)~ Judging frm the timing of the comments its a ongoing self talk process~ and the rational for doing this is just to spur more pro opposition supporters , the similar reason for this website .
ReplyDeletekt,
ReplyDeleteHow outstanding are we compared to our neighbours? Very?
We are of course better off than them (not sure by how much) but don't forget, we are comparing going to be 1st world country vs a 3rd or developing country. How difficult is that? It's like fighting a 3 year old kid....
kt,
ReplyDeleteIf you vote the PAP and their control on the house continues, they will continue to draw every single last drop of blood from you till you are dead. You may well turn out fine. But the next generation maybe be left with nothing. Not even human rights, democracy and freedom of choice to change an authoritarian government that is robbing them blind while filling their own pockets with the spoils from the national coffers... stop a moment and ponder... just think about it.
Goh Chok Tong said Chiam worked hard but he has to go. See link:
ReplyDeletewww.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/206641/1/.html.
Anyone know when Goh Chok Tong moved into Potong Pasir? Or is he returning to become PM? LHL is going?
Interesting to see how PAP behaves when they are being "thrown a hand grenade"!
So, what's next for LKY or LHL, "Goh you go?"
i am not someone who is very great but i stick to my parent teaching that when you made a mistake you must be bold enough to admit it and sincerely apologise for it.
ReplyDeleteso am my parent teaching wrong !!!
Dear pappies,
ReplyDeleteif you cannot see or hear, let me share with you. the tide turned sometime over the last 2 weeks. LHL and PAP is not behaving in a confident fashion. LHL said in a press conference last night...(goodness...press conference at this critical stage...no one listening to him at rallies?) that this election is about the future. Why the about face? Too little too late.
Dear APs supporters,
I look forward to the day when we can use our names proudly on this blog. I hate to say this. I feel like a orphan in my own home.
Goh is so poor thing. Have to listen to young Lee to order him around. Go Potong Pasir!! Go Hougang!! Faster!! Faster la!! Still want your job or not!!! He is like those 7th mth ghost festival singer, run here run there. But for a cool $100k per mth, I guess many ppl will be willing to do it.
ReplyDeletei think if this became a legal issue, he will be deemed to mean fix as "getting back; framing etc" since he used the word "fix" on gomez fixing the government. moreover, he talked about fixing the opposition and gomez fixing the government on the same rally if im correct. plus his ang moh no horse run. where got people mean fix as countering. fix means one sided. something sinister. premeditated. catching you unawares. engage means both do it willingly. that is not FIX.
ReplyDeleteReplying: "I look forward to the day when we can use our names proudly on this blog. I hate to say this. I feel like a orphan in my own home. "
ReplyDeleteThe day will come as we move forward together where every Singaporeans has equal rights, rights to a decent healthcare, rights to speak out without any reprecusions of job dismissal and promotions, business discriminations, law suits, and a future for our children.
I am seeing that future with WP. It could well the PAP, had they not changed their alignment with the People's.
Mr PM Lee Hsien Loong, THE FIX YOU PM
ReplyDeleteyeah. casino. 4D. soccer betting. kelong. fixing. match-fixing also got fixing. all things associated with fixing means cheating right?
ReplyDeleteHe has make a fool of himself.
ReplyDeletevote buying also. haiz. fixing. vote buying. KELONG?
ReplyDeletenice one MATCH FIXING.
ReplyDeletehe cant possibly mean fixing as repairing.
ReplyDeletehmm.. I read some days ago that LHL, LKY, WKS claimed Gomez was fixing elections department, and hence setting up the government. Therefore, they claimed Gomez is a liar.
ReplyDeleteCome clean LHL, apologised personally and not through your Press Secretary.
ReplyDeleteYour father and WKS have critized that LTK and SL shield JG and implies that JG's apology letter is crafted by a lawyer and therefore, is unsincere and acceptable.
But at least James Gomex apologised personally in person in public, and in an election rally. LHL, do the same, and my respect of you will go up substantially.
Why hide, come clean, Mr PM?
How are you going to buy votes? Using our money or the country's money? Your press statement correction does not talk about vote buying?
Eat your own party words if you don't!
If not, please be honourable, withdraw yourself from this election. I am sure balance of your team in AMK can go on to win as you are so confident. Ask people to withdrawn and you yourself don't withdraw!
What is this? We have a PM like this!
well looks like they shot themselves in the foot this time round.... can see that coming when he called opposition wayang party and have to 'fix' them.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot our dear world class PM
i'm not afraid to leave my name. hahah
ReplyDeleteanyway, if he wants to buy votes.. how is he going to do it.. AND WITH WHOSE MONEY?!!!!
MY MONEY?!!
hey kt
ReplyDeletei dun remember PAP candidates having much experience either.. all they do is hide behind Ministers
To KT,
ReplyDeleteSo you're going to hide behind ur mother when you're in trouble ?
Dear Praveen,
ReplyDeleteYou said: "These kinds of gaffes and amateur mistakes (the Opposition have made some too) reflect lack of savvy among our political operators. You'd never catch Lee Kuan Yew making mistakes like these."
I say: Not true. Who said graduate parents give birth to cleverer children? And just recently, on the demise of Rajaratnam, LKY was quoted initially as saying something to the effect that he had stopped missing Raja 8 years ago because he had lost his mind and once someone loses his mind, it's finished. well maybe he was in a state of denial over the loss of his trusted general/buddy/sidekick. Of course the damage control came in the form of us seeing LKY shedding tears at Raja's funeral. And that photo won the lucky ST photgrapher an award. Awww...
kt >> which PAP town council or grassroots are you from
ReplyDeleteI am an amatuer at politics. Not even able to vote. But i feel the way Lee Hsien Loong and his minions gives their rally speech is the right way in the world of politics.
ReplyDeleteAnd by saying that, i am condoning his blatant and unfounded critisisms which are half truths and whole lies.
And by saying that, i am saying that the opposition should be allowed every freedom in the world to say things without fear of backlash during these rallies.
It is easy for Lee Kuan Yew to say
"sue me" everytime he says something. Is he man enough and does he have brains enough to know that his name alone will make any judge shrink in their pants. And if he were to loses, heaven knows what will happen to that judge.
He wants the WP to waste their time during this vital interval meant for giving rally speeches and gathering support, and use it to sue him. In which case he has almost no chances of losing. And at the same time not winning any support.
He is the only brains PAP has.
So sue me
dear kt,
ReplyDeletei am surprised that u have mentioned that you are "working class".
how does the ruling party serve the working class? is a functioning capitalist economy actually in the interest of the working class?
if ur really working class, you will know that you have nothing to loose but your chains.
maybe if u'd strike for once, u'll realize that u dun need to work 12 hours a day for your bosses' profit. (if u dun get beaten down by 1234X dat is)
the "foundation" was not laid down by these political elders. it was laid down by your grandfather, and mine too. today they belong to one party. they are yours, they are mine. take back whats yours.
c
kudos to kt!
ReplyDeleteat least kt have the guts to offer his/her apology, unlike PM Lee, I mean Mr. Lee (oops sorry, parliament dissolved, no ministers now!)
Mr Lee, could you kindly please offer your apology, in person and not thru' another person, like how kt did?
thank you very much!
kt,
ReplyDeleteSay sorry also must explain! Why you say those things out? Are you up to something? Do you have something to hide? Do you know something that we don't know?
Please explain yourself fully.
He say please accept my apology, but where in his statement is his apology? He need to get some lawyer to hepl him write la.....
ReplyDeletekt,
ReplyDeleteEveryone here is either working class or boss. The term working class is very general. Could you kindly be more specific? Private sector: mnc, sme, ... or public sector: GLC, uniform grp, ...?
PAP is known for being an HONEST Government.
ReplyDeleteLHL is showing the way.
I applaude his HONESTY and INTEGRITY to say what he truly believes in his HEART.
That is to FIX the opposition.
Dear Mr. Lee/s,
ReplyDeleteIf you ever get to read this which I know you will likely never now. I still must / would like to air my view and with a very heavy heart that I hate to see this all come to an end. The last few days were absolutely dissapointing and I must say I am fast loosing confidence that the rulling gov.t will ever improve while we face the challenges ahead for the next few demanding years I feel. Yes things look good for now but the possibility of economy turning is evident with mainly the oil prices and bird flu pandemic that may come. We have taken the election as a platform to express our views and likely many of us will be sued. We can be sued for sure if you come to know who we are but it does not solve the problems for all and surely the nation. The recent events are embarassing for our expatriate bosses to follow. They will think that Singaporeans are not very intelligent. This I now fully agree. We have lowered ourselves over and over again to a level that needs to be rectified soon if not we will look very very very bad. Nevermind us loosing 100K etc. the future is bleak anyway if we do not improve. I always thought that going into govt. was to serve the people for the first case and then others eg. money etc. This rocks the core values of the system that I though was world class as the passion is very lacking to my opinion now and as such whatever lies ahead would be not very good. You perhaps have read the earlier long letter to you which to me was very genuine and deep felt. Likely he will not plan to come back to Singapore I must say and we continuously loose our own home grown talent that we have painfully groomed over the last 20 years of their lives. I wish I could say I stay on myself but likely I will too give up and leave this beautiful place soon someday as it will turn ugly soon and I will be totally devastated to see it with my own eyes. I served the military and will willingly lay down my life for the country as a military officer to defend the country this I pledged with my heart and still do and now will likely have to forgo when I leave when the oppotunity comes along. I hate myself for doing this but cannot stay on if indeed this continues to be the way things are. The system now is not what the people want but they cannot say so for fear of being sued etc. My hopes and dreams for this country are fast fading away.
When you win this election with resoundingly victory, I hope you will spare a though for the poor, weak, and helpless. They are the ones who likelt voted for you and deserve you full return in favour and kind. We all work very hard for our money and cannot afford to further pay for increase in taxes and salaries for the govt. My only wish is that you immediately declare no increase in taxes for the next 5 years (circustances allowing) upon your victory. In any slim possibility that you loose then still serve anyway but not the party but the people. As without the people there is no country, no nation, no future.
All the best in the results for polling day but sadly I committed my vote agaist your favour I would already already declare now.
This is my last addition to this site as I will not want to change my decision likely any further.
Seeing you sue the opposition that will follow will only serve to confirm / justify my decision above. (I am not related in any way to any party by the way.) as I think the true best hero will pull his enemies over and get them to serve vs just oppose.
And hopefully we will survive for the next 5 years.
Singapore my home, my love, my country that I sadly might leave behind someday. I am no quitter by the way if you someday might come to know as I always faced challenges daringly most of the times being millitarily trained.
Yours sincerly,
Guess that you will know who someday anyway.
Wow, this letter is written by his secretary? If I re-use his insinuations that Gomez apology letter sounds insincere (just becos someone suspected that it was written by some lawyer), how sincre is a letter coming from some PRESS secretary???
ReplyDeleteI will definately support PAP, they have doe very well for Singapore and we can see the results. No way i will risk voting for opposition party and risk ruining SG and my life. You will not know what they might do to Singapore from the uncultured way they talk in front of the media.
ReplyDeleteshame n u guys who support the oppositions. Singapore goverment is doing a very good job and that includes giving u guys GOOD and first class education which surpass malaysia and indonesia. But u have used it back on the PAP and supports the oppostitions. Try handing SG to them and see what our future will be? Our future kids will suffer to no end with an uncultured goverment!
ReplyDeleteFor those blind dimwits...u want to compare, compare with real 1st class nation lah like UK, France, Switzerland, USA... Dont compare yrself with DEVELOPING nations like Msia or Indonesia! How to compare city to kampung? Are u guys just plain stupid or just simply born idiotic???
ReplyDeleteDid somebody say the PAP GIVE us education? Do you actually think money fell from sky and right into the pockets of our dear government? Please wake up! Even with all the income tax, we still got to pay GST and above that Fees are still being paid in school. Please do not use terms like GIVE! There is no free lunch in the world, especially in SINGAPORE!!!! What is the meaning of CPF? Are you going to say grace for being able to be GIVEN a sum of money to you by your dear government after you have retired?! I am shock you actually said GIVE! What kind of first class education is there? Post-war Japan did what Singapore is doing now at least thirty years ago and realised that it was not working. Those days everyone was moving houses and getting all ways to get into the best KINDERGARTEN!!!! Isn't this a familiar scenario?
ReplyDeleteYou claim that life is good? Do you know how many people are out of job yet still got to vomit out money to pay for TAXES!
Have you ever spared a thought for those who suffered in poverty? An old lady who is in her 90s was supporting her disabled daughter (70 years old). She received so-called $100 per month from those Charitable Party run by our government. She saved this money just in case when she passed away at least her daughter can rely on the savings. Yet once the government found out about her savings, they stopped providing her with the miserable $100 PER MONTH!!!! They demanded that she must use up her savings before getting any money from the CHARITY again!!!! You call that stable and well-taken care of? Wake up and look around you before you are being so contented! You are not the only Singaporean! There are many people out there trying to help the poor. By not giving the opposition a chance, how much do you know they will not do better? It is because there are some people who do not have confidence in everything, that is why they are so very contented with life in Singapore! The gap between the rich ones and the poor ones is getting wider, do you know why? Please open your eyes and see and WATCH before commenting! If there is really someone to be respected in PAP, sorry I really cannot find any. Do not tell me politics are dirty. I know that. But that does not mean seizing control in every area just to make sure your rival falls flat and never able to stand up again!!!! JBJ offended somebody, but what has his wife done?
People, the way things are dealt with by some people up there, imagine they are in countries like Thailand and Indonesia (in favour of this place because someone used it to compare to Singapore!)! Some politicians would have been 'having-whatever-being-done-to-them' or forced to step down long long time ago!!!!
There are too many examples to cite on what the government has done with is unfair to the people. Unless you have never lived on the island long enough, or else you should know all this.
well, some people .. the more they talk and comment.. the more other can see where he is coming from.. obviously, there is no point to be so "agitated" and behaving and talking like uneducated people saying others "Are u guys just plain stupid or just simply born idiotic???" yes. money do not fall from the sky but other countries like malaysia or indo 's ctizens also paid for the educations but how is their standard? Furthermore, i have got 2 children and the goverment helped a lot in giving subsidy. i guess its better for some people to migrate since SG looks so bleak and miserable.
ReplyDeleteHi guys, about the story of the 90 year old woman.. can u guys post the news link? I would like to know more and see more concrete proof.. thanks
ReplyDeleteHi guys, i just happened to see this posts.. just a comment.. isnt this blog for people to post views.. so why is there a need to scold people like this? For those blind dimwits...u want to compare, compare with real 1st class nation lah like UK, France, Switzerland, USA... Dont compare yrself with DEVELOPING nations like Msia or Indonesia! How to compare city to kampung? Are u guys just plain stupid or just simply born idiotic??? .. If u guys cannot tolerate people's comments, or only want other people comments to be your way. why bother to blog and open for comments??? I am sure many out there can judge .
ReplyDeleteFor your information... malaysia is not a "developing" country. Pls dun insult malaysians
<------- u wan to compare with USA??? The country where there are so many unlawful abiding citizens. the next thing u might know is u may die on the streets with a gunshot on the head.
ReplyDeleteQuestion for Mr Press Secretary:
ReplyDeleteThis is election period.
LHL is a PAP leader.
Are you acting in your capacity as a govt civil servant who draws his salary from govt budget, or as a PAP press secretary?
Is the PAP again using govt - state - funds for its own purpose?
I donno about you guys, but to me the ethical authority of the PAP is fast diminishing as the days go by...

PeasantJUDGE
I've come across many more happier msians than sporeans! I've also come across many more happier Thais than Sporeans...And these 2 countries are not even rich nations! So how come, so many sporeans from this supoosedly world class nation, are not so happy lot???
ReplyDeleteBefore we open our mouth and think our tiny spore is perfect, I suggest u talk to sporeans who have lived/are living and working abroad, be it in US, UK, Switzerland etc! Ever wonder why soooo many of these people rather stay overseas than come back here???
And we, the ones who has never lived/worked abroad, stuck in our little cocoon, think our life is perfect, Spore is the best??!!
So many Sporeans lived overseas. How many of them ever got killed whilst walking along the streets at nite? Pls lah wake up.,dont be so gullible to swallow wholesale what the media throws at you!!!
Are we living in self-denial or what???
The 90 years old incident was featured in one of those documentaries. The daughter is crippled and cannot even shower herself. The only bed in the flat is for the daughter and the old mother sleeps on those folder chair.
ReplyDeleteRegarding government subsidising, may I know whose money is that?
It does not require the government a year or two to get back whatever they have subsidised! GST is a form of revenue that goes in by billions. Whose money is this? Where does the money go to? The fees we pay, who gets it? Do not tell me they are employing teachers and lecturers! Subsequently these LOCAL teachers and lecturers still got to pay taxes and GST! Why is there Normal Technical stream? To keep these people out of the street!
ReplyDeleteHave you guys not noticed? Everytime when the economy is bad or worse than the previous year, the GCE 'O' and 'A' results get better. Why? Think about it. It is really 1st class then?
Another example, have you not heard of the saying 'it is cheaper to die than to fall sick in Singapore'? Do you know how much a funeral package cost and how much a surgery cost?
Asking people to migrate? Gosh, you really sound like somebody. This particular person actually said if you do not like the system, you may choose to leave the country. Later the same person brand others as quitters!
Everyone has their rights to voice things out. Government is just a representative! A group of people whom the citizens feel confident with, hence allow* (TAKE NOTE!!!! IT IS ALLOW!!!!) to run their country. Forty years, fifty, sixty...so what? Things will and do change! The first emperor is great, but that does not mean the second and so on are equally good. Or else there would not be from Qin to Qing Dynasty and from the Aryans to Mauryan!
Wow!! I can't believe LKY actually holds this view about oppression by a dictator and the people needing the opposition. This is in total contract to what he and the PAP are saying now. I guess now that they are the dictator, the opposition is now the menace... what hypocrisy...
ReplyDelete"Repression, Sir is a habit that grows. I am told it is like making love-it is always easier the second time! The first time there may be pangs of conscience, a sense of guilt.

All you have to do is to dissolve organizations and societies and banish and detain the key political workers in these societies.
Then miraculously everything is tranquil on the surface.
Then an intimidated press and the government-controlled radio together can regularly sing your praises,
and slowly and steadily the people are made to forget the evil things that have already been done,
or if these things are referred to again they're conveniently distorted and distorted with impunity, because there will be no opposition to contradict."

Well done Daddy & Mummy.
I salute Mr. Lee KY for his foresight...
