i work for the local media, i can only say sorry to singaporeans...we don't have a choice. please don't be misled by us.It's interesting that despite the millions of dollars the PAP throws in your way, you don't get half the respect we get maintaining sites like these - all for free? How does it feel to know that despite the journalism/management/marketing schools that you have attended, you still fail to beat us into oblivion. Just wondering what do you get being ranked 140th again by Reporters without Borders?
Oh right.. Your job keeps the PAP in power. A party that has instituted racial discrimination, suppressed Singaporeans and denied our rights as fellow human beings. Your job perpetuates intimidation and fear. Your job practiced self-censorship with the very issues Singaporeans needed to know. Your job marginalized the very individuals who care more about Singapore than the PAP, and had deemed them unpatriotic.
Your apology is too little, too late! We find it hard to believe that as a human being, as someone with a conscience, you fail to see that you do have a choice. In fact, you're in a better position to initiate a change. We realize our medium is limited, but we continue because we believe in what we're doing. You've a choice, and it's about time you realize the potential you hold. It's about time you realize that you don't need to be the spokesperson for the PAP. It's about time you stand up to your bosses, and let them know that Singaporeans deserve to know the truth.
Afterall, unless you're the CEO of Mediacorp, you're still subjected to the same bullshit that all Singaporeans have to put up with. You've no incentive in mantaining the status quo!

To note: GCT not in the attendee list, though he initally he was also called. GY called specifically. surprise attendee: TCH, Hen and Vivian as well, though they were not part of the core strategy team.
My hunch is that they are looking for new and fresh ideas, as their existing ideas have not had much impact.
PAP clearly didnt expect the crowd's response at AMK on 4th night. They were really shocked. My assessment is that they are going to do something dramatic tomorrow to make sure that they do win Aljunied and PP. They MAY SET UP A BAIT FOR WP to flounder.
Expect dirty tricks, or major stunts by the PAP. the stakes are too high for the PAP.
Apparently LKY was to make a visit there (aljunied) tomorrow morning, but Mama Lee had objected. Dont know the reason.
There is panic and pessimism in the PAP camp which is very easily visible. there is a facade of unity because a small minority of PAP Ministers also didnt like WKS and LKY's handling of JG affair. But they had to keep their mouth shut.
LHL is actually exhibiting nervousness. Not that he is scared of losing AMK, but wondering of the implications of losing Aljunied and the overall percentage of popular vote declining. He cancelled a scheduled interview today at 6 pm with the media.
He is clearly indecisive; keeps going through the draft speech repeatedly. And keeps consulting guys like WKS, Tharman and his journalist friend in SPH about possible reactions to the statements. He is completely unsure.

I worked for the media once, I couldnt stand the hypocrisy and quit for good. SO YOU DO HAVE A CHOICE!
yes, why is it that the people had been deceived to think that being pro opposition is being unpatrotic? all of us do want something for the nation. a progressive nation. however the media is not giving us a choice. yes we dun have those hatred reporting, and i appreciate that. however, even censoring to the extent to be pro PAP, that's way too far. claiming to be a world class media? impossible. the journalists are not stupid. they also know the need for a open society. it's those beuracrats who are in power controlling us. so to the jounralist, be wise! do not supress your fellow singaporeans anymore. do something to help the nation.

ReplyDeletewhat the unnamed journalist is probably trying to say is that his/her articles are being censored by editors despite what he/she may really be wanting to say. yes, they can choose to leave their jobs for the sake of vague ideals about freedom of speech. but that doesn't change anything in the system. that is, in fact, a cowardly way to "follow your conscience". ex-mediacock, what have you done in the name of furthering civil liberties since you left the media?
journalists can only weather the pro-pap storm during the elections and hope that perhaps after that they can get back to their real jobs about reporting real news. telling them to quit their jobs is ridiculous. the fact that they know they're being censored and they're doing everything they can to be unbiased should be good enough for now.
Soon the CNA News broadcast by Media Corpse will be done with pretty host wearing close to nothing bikinis.
