If the PAP does not lose a few seats (incl.GRCs) this time around they will most
certainly do so the next election. It's sad. I personally have great
admiration for LKY but events in the past several years have resulted
    in sinking feeling.

    Why....

    a) AN INABILITY TO UNDERSTAND ELECTORATE AND COMMUNICATE

The current slate of MPs and Ministers don't understand grassroots and
cannot clearly articulate concrete steps to improve people's issues.
Many have been plucked from the corporate echelons and have not worked
the ground. They keep harping on Singapore past and toe a party line.

In the corporate world if you don't understand the market you cannot be
successful. In the political world if you don't understand your people,
    you cannot represent them.

    b) NOT REALIZING THAT DEBATE IS PART AND PARCEL OF A FIRST WORLD
    DEMOCRACY

Don't they realise that debate is part and parcel of a first world
    democractic government.

The PM went so far as to state that opposition is a pain that the MPs
    and Ministers can do without.

"I have better things to do that bother to spend time fixing the
opposition". Isn't the primary objective of an MP to act in the best
interests of his/her ward? This means spending time understand issues
and representing their cause in parliament. Unless we discuss and
debate important issues we will not ensure that the best options are
pursued. Action without good analysis and debate often results in
execution of ideas founded on mistaken beliefs.

The best companies make decisions based on extensive analysis and
    discussion in war rooms.

    c) FAILURE TO UNDERSTAND THAT SERVING AS AN MP IS SERVICE TO THE NATION

MPs need not and should be paid on parity with CEOs and Presidents of
private companies. It is national service and MPs must be remunerated
    as civil servants.

If individuals prefer to stay in the corporate world and do not wish to
serve as MPs because of lower salaries than so be it. Afterall aren''t
NSmen paid an allowance for the privilege of serving the nation.

Paying Ministers million$ salaries to attract them is dangerous. A head
of a well-known charity was brought down because he was paid a high
    salary.

    d) USING LAWSUITS WHICH ARE COUNTER PRODUCTIVE

Suing or taking legal action against a political adversary is
tantamount to beating up an opponent in a game of chess because you are
    losing.

A first world parliament works based on debate and there are many
protocols in place for parliamentary debate. Let's stay within the
    confines of this, shall we.

    e) NOT BUILDING AN OPEN, CONSTRUCTIVE AND FAIR CULTURE

Only the words of a few matter. These are painstakingly highlighted in
the TV, newspaper and other media. Any other comments, opinions and
    criticism are deleted or dropped.

This results in many supporters but few leaders. And when the leader
makes a decision, contrary views are not taken or given due
recognition. Unfortunately this system has permeated all walks of life
    - schools, business, government. How often have you been in a meeting
where only the boss talks and when the meeting ends every one bitches
about things that have gone wrong.

Are our decisions arrived at after a sound decision-making process
where all inputs are collected, discussed and filtered to arrive at the
    right course of action?

    Examples:

Why can't we have an IR without a casino? Would it have worked? Could
it? Did Orlando (Walt Disney World, Universal) need a casino to be
    successful?

Are our recent investment forays into Thailand, Australia, China
justified? Are they being made by experienced investors?

Are the location of new MRT stations justifed? e.g. 3 stations in the
circle line within 1 km (Stadium, Dakota, Tanjong Katong) or Bukit
Timah where most residents prefer to drive. Why not a line to serve the
factory workers along the west coast road or an LRT in the jurong
    industrial estate.

    f) ARROGANCE

You see, I was right. Therefore I will continue to be right and you
must listen to me and do what I tell you to do. This is the army
mentality. While this works in the armed forces, it cannot be applied
in the context of a first world government.

LKY was a great leader.. However, what worked in the prime of LKY may
not work today. Times have changed and today's problems can only be
solved by today's solutions. The PAP is fast losing the tremendous
goodwill built over the years to a new electorate who frankly sees no
benefit of past problems and past solutions.

THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE REASONS.

It is still not too late.

Yes, the PAP will lose some seats this time around. But fix the
problems and maybe the next time around you can regain lost ground.

Evolving into a First-world Government - what MM could do. It seems inevitable that we move into a multi-party system where alternative voices can be heard, even MM is not disagreeable to this but would prefer first-world opposition. It would be a great service & legacy to the nation if he could lift himself upwards into a non-partisan role (ie. come out of his current party) once the election is over to nurture/evolve the current system into a first-world govt of 2-3 parties for the benefit of the Singapore. He is already well-respected by most (if not all Singaporeans), being non-partisan will reinforce his legacy as the founding Father -- a first-world country with a first-world government.

  6. My bet is that MM will stay in office until the day he dies or stricken with illness. He is too obsessed with politics and being in power to let go. Very often, such simple fact is oblivious to the man but is so very clear to everyone around him. This is a very sad ending to an illustrious career, reminding me of dying rulers who simply refues to let go...

  7. In the olden days in China, there is always an important official post known as Historian who will document the 'official' history that the emperor wants his people to remember.

In modern days, people write their own history books to cover their traces of their misdeeds, emphasise own achievement. That's to prevent when one walks into grave, their name will be tarnished and he is not there to sue them.

LKY & LHL are running Singapore as if she is their private coy. They think they are the Chairman, CEO & Board of Directors of the coy, & the rest of us are merely their employees. Of course they think Opposition is a pain in their asses!
