Lee Hsien Loong's Approval Rating

Funny that LHL should be compared with Bush II. I was just thinking that perhaps the two of them do not really want to be in politics, do not want to do all the morally questionable things they are doing, but because of their sense of responsibility to their family, they feel compelled to carry on the legacy of their respective fathers. If I'm right, then aside from disappointment at their not having the moral courage to stand up for what they really believe in (and for all I know they could actually believe in what they do), I must feel sorry that they must live this morally repulsive life and not be able to choose to live the life they really want. How sad it must be to know that with your credentials, you can be a success at almost any job anywhere around the world, and yet are morally obligated to stay on to take over the reviled family enterprise.
its inaccurate. the visitors of the blog are anti pap. i hate to admit it, but lee will win amk.
ReplyDeletei agree. I dont think LHL has done that badly.
ReplyDeleteWith about 800 votes casted, its hard to go wrong on that. However what amazes me is the overwhelming 'unsure' votes. This tells me that mojority of the the people aren't sure of his position and his credibility.
ReplyDeleteHey the two Anonymous users above me, are you in the age range of 10 to 20? This is a simple question. No need to sue me.
ReplyDeleteJust saw LHL on TV talking about JG. I think PAP knows that the situation is critical. He would not have spoken in this hard hitting manner unless the situation is dire.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the exact measurements allowed for the posters used in GRCs during electoral campaigning?
ReplyDeleteLHL made a interesting speech making comments on how "to fix opposition" if there are 15 - 20 opposition members in Parliament. Is there something I miss here? LHL says that our international standing will suffer with JG episode. Our international standing has already suffered. What will foreigners think looking into JG headlines day after day on election week?
ReplyDeleteCNA says "PAP dangles $100m upgrading package for Hougang". interesting the word "dangle" was used. surely that does not make PAP look good because it makes Hougang voters look like rabbits. maybe that was the work of a AP supporter. haha!
ReplyDeletethe battle in AMK GRC is not about PAP or WP winning. it is a psychological battle in which PAP must win with high percentage of vote else will consider loosing the psychological battle.
ReplyDeleteAnyone ready to solve some mathematics and statistics questions?
ReplyDeleteQuestion A): assuming that the people in this internet poll belongs to 26% of the younger population (ie 56% of 26% of the population disapproved), and assuming that the rest of the population's disapproval rate is 30% (ie 30% of 74% of the population disapproved), what is the overall disapproval rate? Round your answer to the nearest whole number.
(Ans 37%)
Question B): Instead of the assumed 30% above, at what percentage of disapproval from the 74% of the population is needed so that the overall disapproval rate is 50%?
(Ans 48%)
Consider this:
ReplyDeleteSuppose only 10% of the population support opposition parties, and 90% support P*P.
Then shouldn't 10% of the seats in parliament belongs to opposition parties?? How come there are only 2 seats, as compared to 8 seats??!!
The answer, dear fellow singaporeans, is because of GRC. All the bullsh*t about having minority in government. Even before there are GRCs, there are minorities in the parliament..
So, pls use this analogy to tell your friends why GRC is so unfair to opposition parties. Especially when the coverage of GRCs are been reviewed every five years.
Yes, the GRC thing totally baffles me.
ReplyDeleteHow does PAP come up with that?
What sort of crappy poll is this?
ReplyDeleteIf the exact same thing that happened to WP were to happen to PAP. do you think you will say such nice things about PAP as u did abt WP? Of course NOT!
So what does this prove?
It proves those who are anti are just anti for the sake of being anti. That is all there is to it. No reason, no logic.
So don't try to be philosophical about it.
If Opposition lost Hougang and Potong Pasir, will the next Election become 1 big GRCs'. If this happen, who can stop it.
ReplyDeleteIn response to the anonymous post (2.14am), the answer lies in proportional representation versus the first past the post system. Under the latter system, as long as you win 51% of every constituency, then if 49% of the population voted against you, you will still win all the seats. So how you draw the electoral boundaries is very important. In addition to the problem of fielding additional candidates t oform a team, the GRC is a problem because it allows a concentrated anti-PAP constituency to be overwhelmed in a larger PAP dominated area.

ReplyDeleteLet's not be a 'Yes' S'porean anymore. We shd be able to question & see things beyond surface level. Exercise your right.
ReplyDeleteIf money for upgrading etc they claim comes from the the great invesments by the Govt. and the GIC is earning next to nothing then money comes has to come from somewhere else. My stupid guess is me in terms of GST, COE, ERP, Income Tax. I refuse to be fooled anymore. The rest of "them" who still deny the fact are only fooling themselves.
ReplyDeletei agree with 9.35AM above. mosst ppl are jus being anti jus for the sake of being anti.
ReplyDeletethere are issues that ppl are not so satisfied with the government. its like there are so many issues and there's bound to be one that YOU are unhappy about.. so jus think YOU are unhappy abt issue A; HE is pissed abt policy B; SHE is upset with regulation C.
dats why ppl prefer to listen to the opposition parties' rallies as compared to PAP's rallies. ppl are jus looking for a place to come together to "against" PAP..
................
Fortunately or unfortunately, the GRC concept cuts both ways. When you win, you win big and when you lose, you lose BIG.
ReplyDeleteThe PAP may well lose one or 2 GRCs this time around.
The best way to get the best candidates into parliament is via SMCs and let the people decide. Singaporeans are a maturing population. They read, watch TV, read SMS/email messages and most importantly surf the Web. If they can sent and receive SMS messages they are tech savvy.
I have nothing against the PAP, they have done a credible job BUT they can do MUCH MUCH better. I am no anti PAP fanatic, i cannot name one grievience whatsoever, all I want is for the PAP to better serve the residents. I want to spur them. I do so by denying them my vote. Go PAP work harder for me.
ReplyDeleteOur Gov said this election is very important to all Singaporean. I strongly agreed cos i m a

Do you understand??/ What's walkover??// Do the resident agreed??// Why can't you win by Glory a fair and saint competition!!!// Why always find bone in the eggs when there is opposite sit in???// What is this??? Aren't we worst then a communist Country. We can't Vote fairly, We can't talk openly, We can't have our own thinking, we are worst than a puppet.
What's going on ????
Please Mr LKY, once and for all you are already 82yrs we don't denied and never will we forget you and your contribution to the nation. Your effort is always appreciated and cannot be erase. But it is time you have to let go.... You are once our hero so be it stay as a hero don't let the nation hate you and forget your contribution and goodness.
And please don't make Singapore a laughing butt to the World. I have been travelling around the world and the words I heard 10yrs before and now is totally different. How disappointed I am to say.
10 years ago - ppl say " Singapore is a clean and nice country. you have good government and system. What a great part of the world you are born in. Lucky you a Singaporean.
But now what they say : -
Oh you are from Singapore. What a pity, such a nice country but no human rights. You cannot have brain in Singapore or they will damn you in one way or another. You have to be a puppet for all your life like a slave. When you GOV say only right turn you can't go left. It is no longer a democracy world it is the LEE DYNASTY. We are back to the Emperor times in the history of China.
Please is time to let go.
Eric Cantonna. Machester United legend. Forever remembered as a legend. Why? He knew when to quit. He was making lots of money too. Imagine Eric sticking around at Man Utd till he's 50, telling all Man Utd supporters that 'I was very great in the past and I did this and that...' Would Man Utd go far with him playing the anchor role in attack? Life is a stage. You have done so much for us. Let us sing you praises, write poems about you and even lots of books. And maybe you can play with your grandchildren in the way you couldn't with Loong. And you could still read your Straits Times in peace. Thank you MM.
ReplyDeleteI was flabbergasted with the events yesterday. Milllions are used to woo votes again. Coffee shop owners are afraid to vote properly for the party of choice for fear of not getting their license, same for many others because thay think that the vote is not secret and the govt will know. Also those who have not been interested in politics will simply vot in the current govt. for not real reason at all. In the third case people think that what if the PM looses his seat. Sadly this is the case. Thus for every vote cast I can see that 20-30% are not the people's real intentions. So the last part is even worst we do not have the guts to vote the party/people we need/want. All the best to our future if we have anymore of if left. We deserve what we get at the end of the day. I give up explaining but not the desire to express myself.
ReplyDeletemillions used to woo votes again?
ReplyDeletecan someone please refresh my memory... hmm... if 600K equals peanut/s, millions merely equals couple more peanut/s
besides, the millions belonged to the taxpayers anyway! isn't it rightful that what belongs to you is returned?
Has any noticed yesterday's news.....about ten or more people washing a void deck? Probably every 5 years washed one time...poor people that stay there.
ReplyDeletePlease be grateful! Made the right choice and vote wisely!!!
