Straits Times stirring up pro-PAP policy

SaTire:

The Straits Times forums today has shed new light on the pro-PAP stance that they have always had.

Publishing a letter by Lena Soh Kwee Kim, she pointed out that an article in Insight has not been as impartial as it should be. The lack of journalistic virtues has been highlighted for all to see in an analytical piece of commentary.

By unconsciously feeding the mind of the Singaporean public with it's pro PAP stance, she questioned the use of disparaging words that were used to 'put down'the opposition.

The Straits Times news team has described Potong Pasir as a 'dead town' 'that even the dead forsake after they are exhumed from their century old home'. She went on to point out that the writer described Potong Pasir as 'laid back'. Using hyperbole like 'logic defying' to describe the Potong Pasir electorade has also shown clearly where the political allegiance of the writer stood.

Despite stating that '97 percent of the residents expressed happy living in the ward', the ST sought to portray a totally unconvincing and cynical view that is entirely untrue of the general opinion of Potong Pasir residents. Such propaganda is yet again aim at turning the public sentiment towards the PAP cause of winning back this ward.

I wonder if the Straits Times can yet claim that they are a reputable paper and on the other hand producing such bias reporting that is contradictory to the basic essence of good journalism. The Insight article was to provide general information on the situation in Potong Pasir and not an Opinion piece. The journalist in all due respect must be impartial in reporting and not add his own opinions in areas in which he percieve as incorrect.

If he wants to do that, he can express his own views in a separate column with his name on the byline and be accountable for it, instead of hiding behind the ST on a whole to express his anti oppostion views. A newspaper needs room for impartial reporting and opinions. If there are only opinion riddled articles, how can they be credible?

Surely, 140 years of existance must have taught this newspaper something about basic news reporting.
