Moral Role of the President

"President is not — and should not be — a separate power centre", Tony Tan
The EP role is another power centre. It is not an executive power, but a moral power. It has no power to enact/amend laws, but it has the powerful role of speaking out the nation's aspirations and opinions, which may be more important than any executive powers of the parliament.

The EP is elected by the people of Singapore. As such he has the mandate of the people of the nation and he is obligated to protect all the interests of Singaporeans (not just the national reserves) Otherwise, why elect and not appoint the president, as was previously done?

What the PAP wants is a status quo like they had with Nathan. No questions, no troubles. Our late EP Ong Teng Cheong was a lesson PAP learned when he asked too many questions and created a public fallout between him and then PM Goh CT.

Singapore is riding on a wave of changes, like the rest of the world. This is a window of opportunity for change in our political culture. We cannot accept a status quo. We must the the masters of our own destiny and not be powerless tools of a political machine that has morphed into a self-serving monstrosity at the nation's expense.
