The day we've been fearing for quite sometime has finally arrived. Newspaper TODAY has announced it has suspended Mr Brown column for his freedom of speech.
Most of you readers may be unaware of the seriousness of this matter, but PAP has once again succeeded in hijacking our free expression.
They know how ridiculous it is to say that people are free to say whatever they want but when the public criticises the government for high cost of living, suddenly it becomes against their rule.
They also know by suspending such a high profile blogger it could back fire the press and the government.
They don't care. They are simply too powerful and they are obviously pretty good at hyping up their political agenda behind everything that gets in their way and hoping to silence critic that will drive up support among the intolerant minority.
Talking won't do it. We need to defeat these people and boycott their sources where it hurts most.

This video clip is spot on:

Ah.. don't be illusioned now. There was never free speech anyway!
ReplyDeleteWe have to be kidding ourselves if we can call what we had (or rather didn't have) before this MICA-Bhavani diatribe 'free speech.'
speak through your ballot paper the next time round.
ReplyDeleteI used to hate Mr Brown because he had a podcast about bad things about Gomez, but now that he is banned by the PAP government, which I hate, so i support him
ReplyDeletekill PAP for banning opposition supporter
ReplyDeleteyes's sir!
ReplyDeletePerhaps some good can come out of this.
ReplyDeleteMr Brown's author has been accused of being partisan. Perhaps he is. Perhaps not.
But having been accused as such, he should now go "the whole hog." Here's how:-
Singaporeans want to continue to read his views but he has been denied space. I can think of no better opportunity than the Workers' Party offering him the opportunity to write a regular column in the "HAMMER". The WP newspaper is already gaining popularity and circulation will be substantially boosted with a regular Mr Brown column.
As for MICA and those who made the decision to silence him, this is simply a case of a "self-fullfiling prophesy".
Anyone in the WP listening???
in singapore.. the adult ABCs of the political alphabet.
ReplyDeleteA for PAP
B for PAP
C for PAP
D for PAP
.......... you get the drift..
oh there is not 'buts'
another sad but crap day for singapore....
WP is gaining momentum and speed with injection of new bloods. It's encoraging to see its recent growth and popularity.Continue your good work !
ReplyDeletemrbrown has remained as a non-partisan columnist, and it does not serve much purpose to tag his column on the WP newsletter.
ReplyDeleteby tagging mb's column to the WP newsletter, it just convieniently labelled mb as a partisan columnist, of which i believe mb isn't. hence i do not believe this course of action to be feasible.
on top of that, mb has his personal blog site, and it served well as his personal space to air his views.
though his space in Today may have been suspended and/or may be removed permanently, supporters of mb can spread by the word of mouth, through emails and such to advertise and garner more support for mb.
just my 2 cents worth...
cheers =)

ReplyDeleteI am saddened by the wave of criticism against the TODAY newspaper. Most people forget that it was this newspaper which had the courage to give us a print access to Lee Kin Mun's humour and candour. (This was especially meaningful to seniors who cannot easily gain access to the Internet).
ReplyDeleteIn it's relative short history, TODAY has shown a braver, more enlightened editorial judgement than the other English daily (100 years old?), which I have gladly stopped buying.
Thank you, TODAY. It was good while it lasted!
Keep your chin up!!!
The average Singaporean is as much to blame (if not more) than the policymakers. As long as Singaporeans' stomachs are filled there will be little hope in issues like championing free speech. Anyway who can speak when, like pigs, they are constantly stuffing their faces with food?
ReplyDeleteGo to any forum and you will find that subjects like "where to find the best Hokkien mee" generate hundreds of posts. We must be the greediest nation on the planet.
And the socio-political landscape? Heck care man.
Don't you think that the Govt KNOWS this?
