Part 2

What an inspirational speaker!

Alec Tok, 46, grew up in Queenstown. A Peranakan, he speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Mathematics at NUS. During his National Service, he served as a Police Inspector at Tanglin Police Station and later at the Police Public Relations Department.

Mr Tok worked for the Singapore Armed Forces' Music & Drama Company as its Drama Director from 1990-1994. Until 1997, he was seconded to SAFRA where he helped set up Safra Radio. He also had his own talk show on the station.

Alec has several theatre firsts to his name, having produced the first Singaporean Chinese musical in 1996, and art directed the film Twelve Stories, Singapore's first entry into the Cannes Film Festival in 1997.

In 1998, he went travelling in North America and later settled down on a National Arts Council Overseas Training Grant to pursue a Masters in Fine Arts at Yale University's prestigious School of Drama. Since then he lived in the United States until 2010, having set up his own successful theatre company.

Mr Tok returned to Singapore in May 2010. He strongly believes that every Singaporean has a duty to look out for the most vulnerable and that government must be held accountable for their wellbeing. Putting this belief into practice, he has decided to participate in these General Elections to speak on behalf of his fellow Singaporeans.

    Is your statement really objective?

Alec Tok is no kacang puteh, k?
Yes, he may not have proven himself to be a good MP yet, but so are many of our PAP MPs

By standing for election with the possibility of getting elected for a 5 year term, he is making a sacrifice on his part and career to serve in his homeland, Singapore. (He is heeding the one of the many manifestoes we were brought up with over the last 20 years.)

His sincere speech resonates with many of us, I am sure.
But am I willing to make that sacrifice? My answer is no.
    Are you?

Hence, I salute him for having the courage to step forth to contest in this election.

May the better man win for Bukit Panjang SMC.

Alec Tok was one of my beer buddies back at the days he was a deejay. Really great guy, and he was was listenting ear through the darkest times in my life. Then we lost contact after he went to US.

He is a really brilliant chap, and I am very glad he is back.

He is indeed no "kachang puteh" candidate, in term of talent, paper qualification and accomplishments, he is a match for any in PAP. But in term of heart to serve, humilty, like all other Opp members, they are streets ahead of any PAP candidates.

Now he is fighting as a SDP candidate - I think in Bukit Pangjang, and I really hope he will be successful.

When talented people are joining the Opp instead of PAP, you know the writing is on the wall for PAP.
