Why is LKY so quiet?

Why is LKY so quiet?

Usually before an election, LKY will dish out his usual wisdom, usually in a rather threatening manner. I believe he choose to be quite now so that when he dishes it out just be fore the election, it will have maximum impact. One will probably recall how he predicted that if PAP is voted out, investments will depart from Singapore and we will become a fishing village and our womenfolk will become maids in other countries. While the 30+ percent that always vote against PAP is immune to this, I am sure it is very effective against a larger number of people.

I think its important to point out what he will dish out again and show why its all falsehood and nothing more than self serving hypocritical statements meant to entrench themselves. Here are some

Falsehood #1 : Singapore will stop functioning. All governmental activity will cease. Litter will be slewed everywhere. The civil service is still in place. It just means that they will now need to get new directions. Perhaps instead of everything being market rate driven, elements of compassion for the citizens can be added. Until these directions come, how the civil service is structured requires it to work as before until new directives are set.

Falsehood #2 : Investments will exit out of Singapore Foreign companies are driven by profit. They are not here because they like PAP but because they like how much money they can make here. I do not hear any opposition party advocating driving these investments out or in other words reducing the opportunity for these companies to make the level of profit that they are able to. Our womenfolk will not need to be maids.

Falsehood #3 : Your HDB flats will be worthless This is absurd. While its true that its PAP policies that has driven the HDB prices to current ridiculous levels, it is also their policies that make citizens very worried for their children and enslaving them. It’s a demand and supply situation for resale flats. If the prices drop, the group that will be hurt are the ones that bought it last. Its like a pyramid scheme that the PAP has created. Unfortunately, there is a need to stabilize the flat prices and the only way is to freeze it at today’s level and allow affordability to catch up.

We need to educate a whole generation that what LKY say is often wrong just as he is right. Perhaps we need them to remember that he had to stand corrected about his blatantly wrong comment about our fellow muslim Singaporeans. Isn’t he the one that wanted to implement the graduate mothers’ priority scheme. What about his disastrous misguided “stop at two” policy? Recall how he has blamed Singaporeans for PAP mistakes, like the mas selamat escape. How we are daft if we vote against MBT, how we need spurs in our behind, how more foreigners will be good for us.

When he comes out and spew his nonsense this election, please make sure everyone is aware that he has been wrong very often too and these threats are just more nonsense from him and should be ignore. In fact, we should start asking why he needs to threaten Singaporeans? What is he trying to hide?

  3. It was reported that "Secretary-General of the Workers' Party Low Thia Khiang has said again that his party is not ready to form an alternative government." How about forming alternative government with other opposition parties?

That LKY has contributed immensely to the well being of Singapore is not in doubt. What is in doubt is whether Singapore could be as well run and properous without him. Also, his failure to lay the down a strong foundation in the event of PAP leaving the political scene is the failure of the 'great' man. History is sure to judge him negatively on this aspect and the legacy of a great man is always building things that last for a long time and not just in his own lifetime. The lack of separation of power and proper checks and balances in our political system is the greatest danger to the sustainable prosperity of Singapore. I fear none of what we have today will last and he is to be blamed wholly in that eventuality and history will mark him down as just another opportunist among common politicians.

  8. I strongly believe what MM LKY says is from his heart and he has always worked in the interests of every Singapore. It pains me to read your opinions which have been so loosely thought through. PLease give him benefit of his vast experience and foresight of a great leader. I have great admiration for MM for all that he has done for us, Singaporeans and can never thank him enough.

    Hi Treasha,

LKY is now 87 years old. How old are you? You probably didn't know him well enough, no disrespect to you. Can you imagine if Singapore was compared to a big country like the United States and the President suddenly dies. Will the United States immediately become lawless, chaotic, with the economy collapsing and there will be anarchy ? Not likely my friend. Singapore is no different from the U.S. of A. Some conjecture here is in order. Is LKY unable to let go because he so loved the people and country that he did not want to see his country fall back into third world condition from first world and his hard work (the fruit of his labour) destroyed? or, could it be that LKY is not confident that the current Prime Minister ( his son ) is not capable enough, or there is a deeper reason? It is often said that with greater power comes greater responsibility. LKY could be suffering from addiction to power, perhaps? I agree, lets not steal the Man's thunder and allow him his moment of glory. Let history be the judge of his actions.

    Well said.

I don't blame WKS for Mas Selamat escape. Shit happens.
But I don't like our men in white because they are too arrogant, too high handed.

High salaries. No problem. Then accept the high political risk and accountability that comes with it, just like the private sector. No double standards please

  12. I'm glad you pointed out LKY is often wrong just as he is right because no man can predict the future. I'll grant you that the graduate mothers' scheme was misguided but pulling up the stop at two policy is like pulling up china's stop at one policy.

Policies take time to be effected and can only be enacted based on information available at that time, no one can predict the actual impact, they can only forecast it to the best of their abilities.

If you point out something will most likely happen during a certain course of events, does that make it a threat? like if you keep a rottweiler, u'll most like get sued for it chewing someone's face off? (no offense to keeping rottweilers, just an example)

If all our leaders were blamed for the actions of their underlings, shouldn't we blame ourselves for voting them in time and time again? Shouldn't we blame the CEO of DBS for letting the ATM machines malfunction? How is mas selamat's escape wong kan seng's DIRECT responsibility? I can't imagine if the minister had to manually inspect all the prisons personally to ensure no one can escape.

Of course you don't hear the opposition saying they wanna drive out FDI, would you vote for them if they said that? But surely, anyone can enact policies that make it harder for FDI to come in.

And lastly, everyone complains about MM's pay, is it because we can never hope to earn enough? Does it really matter? Because, he might be paid so much, but i sure as hell don't see him living a cushy life in the Cayman islands after his term was up or living in a huge ass mansion driving lambhorginis and porsches to business events and getting wasted. Even SM still around when he could 'run away' so to speak. All of them still around. And they certainly don't live in big ass mansions too nor drive big ass cars or drop big ass words.

ON THE CONTRARY...IF ANY WORKER'S PARTY MEMBER HOLD ANY SIGNIFICANT POSITION...I WOULD NOT INVEST IN SINGAPORE. I WOULD LOOSE HOPE FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE FOR SINGAPORE...PAP HAS TAKEN SUCH GOOD CARE OF SINGAPORE...WE WOULD NOT BE WHERE WE ARE TODAY WITHOUT THEM.

Why is LKY so quiet? Can't you see he can't speak clearly, even slurring his words at times. He has to be assisted in walking. Just watch his Nomination Day speech. Pathetic. The demise of One Mama has its toll on the man. So d'ont expect any pontification ad nausea from him this time.

  16. Lky is so quiet because the wife is no longer around to advice him.My opinion is that lky and his family will 1 day be like suharto story.Malaysia and indonesia is watching how lky treat his fellow countrymen as cows and dogs in the past years.Common Singaporeans, brothers and sisters, let us change a new government who will work for us not we work for them.

  17. As far as I am concerned LKY is merely an insignificant numbnut. Even if the opposition field a bangla, he can be assure of my vote!

  18. He don't talk better, we don't want any opposition to fall into his trap and get sued out of the elections again. Remember what happened to Tang Liang Hong, Chee Soon Juan, and other brave opposition members? The best is he just stay at home and mourn for his wife... Come on, already 80 years old already, enjoy life also enough already... give the new generation a chance to shape own own future! If Singapore ever fails, it is not your responsibility any more also.

  19. LKY is famous for veiled threats - that Singapore will be doom if PAP is not around. I can't reconcile with the argument that Singapore's prosperity is tied to PAP only - what about hardworking Singaporeans and the fact that our natural advantage as a South East Asian hub that attract foreign investments?

There is more than to it. Your assumptions are way too mild. Read the Little Tale from Catherine Lim @http://catherinelim.sg/. Although I thought the tale was hilarious, the scenarios are more real.

  21. We are paying $3 million to keep him on as MM. So, he has to work for that money we pay him by putting on pre-election wayang shows and turning into a hungry PAP ghost threatening to unleash curses and disasters if we dont propitiate (i.e. vote for) PAPa. He's doing his job well. Lets do ours byt voting him and the rest of the PAPsters out. Remember. May 7. Vote wisely. Vote intelligently. Vote not PAP....

  22. Agreed 100 with what you say. I would also add that his chairmanship of GIC has led to disastrous investments in US investment banks, just before the markets collapsed. Such losses depletes the reserves of Singapore.
