To rid a suckling

Why is there anger and fear all over this country? The anger is the result of an autocratic government; the fear is because of 50 years of rule by a single party: A rule that must be dealt with like a child growing out of his pacifier. But at 50 still a suckling? This is an abnormal situation. It is a sickness. Yet there are Nations in this state for hundred of years: Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China.

Do we become the like of these countries? No, we cannot, there is no aspiration of adulthood in their loin. A country grows only when she can change the government as and when she wants. Britain has its longest spell of the same government only recently, was it a good ride? It was plain sailing for a while and painful in the end.

We have no such luxury. Our ride has been for more than 50 years, since 1959. Do we want to carry on with this suckling syndrome? We must wean ourselves out of this misery. To put it mildly, it is an embarrassment. However, to put it in perspective, it must end badly if we cannot do what we aspire currently to do: change this government.

There were times in history when big decisions had to be made by a person or a group of people. We are lucky, we have the internet, we can change via a huge group of people, that is our strength, however that is also our weight: an inertia that need to be dragged to attain momentum.

We must attain momentum by 7th of May to wean this country out of its habit to suck the tits of a one party system.

We must do it.

Yes Singaporeans, please vote for the future of Singapore! The ruling party and the opposition parties believe we are matured enough and we are!

I spoke to group of NUS/NTU graduate friends of my era (post 65). They are all professionals at the peak of their careers. Here is how several of the conversations went -

Q: What's your view of the coming elections?

A: Not much change really.. I am too busy with my career and no time to read any election news anyway. The government is somewhat doing a good job. Just let them do it.

Q: Aren't you concern with how policies are made and how it concerns Singaporeans?

A: I have faith the ruling party's got best intellectual horsepower. Even if they make the wrong decisions, they are quick to make changes. As asserted by MM/SM/PM, alternate voices may be noise or daft that would impede how PAP thinks how fast Singapore has to progress..

    Q: What about accountability issues?

A: With the exception of poor investment decisions and the over spending during YOG requiring some explanation (which has never been admitted or done till this day), I believe I can still afford the 'national bill' through our taxes. This is in exchange for a safe and secure Singapore for my kids. Isn't it worth it?

Q: What about concerns on Foreign talent influx and income gap divide?

A: Income gap? I am on the upper echelon, why should I bitch? Foreign talent influx? I believe that only impacts lower to mid level employees? Lets address this in case I lose my high flying job or can't find a better paying one in competition to highest levels of foreigners.

Gosh, these people are my friends and acquaintances. Certainly hope they are not the typical local grads who are completely over worked and apathetic of politics and Singapore!!
