Very interesting rally with Mr Chiam being the last speaker, urging his residents not to be bought into the lift upgrading carrot made by the challenging party. After which, Mr Chiam and his supporters walked back to his town council office, with many hundreds followed, chanting "Potong Pasir" along the 1km(est) stretch.
I have a deep feeling he might not win this election, there is an underlying fear among the residents, the carrot treats and the challenging party's threats might finally overcome them, the residents might succumb. If the challenging party takes over, PP might be assimilated into the bigger GRC next door to it. I hope this prediction will not turn true, I would be disappointed with the residents if that happens. Our souls would be sold and discarded. -from a person who is not able to vote.
Sadly, that looks like the likely outcome. Some residents don't get the fact that if the upgrading don't materialise as promised, they can't get to vote the Opposition back in because in all likelihood Potong Pasir is going to be assimilated into a GRC.
I really hope I'm wrong, especially the way he's been treated by the PAP, and the way Sitoh has gone about this election, Mr Chiam deserves what is certainly his last term in office.
If Chiam were to lose and its a split vote, then what irony that'd be.
All this talk of heartware, passion and unity among Singaporeans from the PAP government, and here we have a constituent -- one that has stood behind its MP for decades -- now split apart by the PAP's own money politics.
How are we expected to teach our kids about loyalty and passion when the PAP government is going all out to prove that these can all be bought?
World-class country? Suddenly this doesn't feel like a country I want my kids to grow up in...
I love chiam see tong!! I'm living quite near to potong pasir and i've long heard of his name and his heart towards his residents. However, judging from past election results, it seems like Mr chiam is losing some of his supporters. I hope this isnt the case this time.
He has given so much throughout his years being an MP for potong pasir. Hope the results would turn out fine or more than fine (WIN IN GRC!)
Chiam has been doing his best for last 2 decades! He is really a Singapore's WONDER and struggling so badly for all Singaporeans!!!! He is doing all his best, despite he is 71, but a 80 plus just wow & wow without energy!!! Cheers & Cheers!!! Heiyo!!! Come 0n> Let's Progress TOGETHER with a much more TRANSPARENCY Government... WE DON'T NEED WAN 1 PM TO BE EARNING S$160K/mth, tis money should go to very POOR! GST 7% on d Way, latest maybe by August. Let's Cheers for a GREAT OPPOSITION 2006! CHIAM & LOW CUM SYLVIA & ALL, WELL DONE... Trust Me??? If you want better Life, let's STRIVE for it, PAP has been dominating for decades, but from IMPROVEMENT to DEPROVEMENT cum STAGNANT!!!
I really can't believe SM Goh actually went as far as publishing Potong Pasir Town Council's accounts just for the sake of winning an election (and not his own, for that matter!)
You don't see the opposition asking the PAP to show their accounts as to where their $180million upgrading plan for Potong Pasir and Hougang are going to come from, do you?
That's it. Whatever respect I have for Mr Goh / Mr Lee Kwan Yew is gone. Can't believe senior ministers like them can stoop that low -- and against Mr Chiam, of all people, who have been more dedicated an MP than most PAP MPs.
I can only hope the swing voters in Potong Pasir are as indignant enough to know who to choose.
Hi Chiam, Thank you for all yr Years of BULL'S ENERGY, DON'T get DISHEARTENED, TENS of THOUSANDS will still support you!!! You have make Plenty of IMPROVEMENTS to CITIZENS os Singapore. Eg.. Progessive Bonus/etc, of course not forgetting LOW too, all this POWER men!!!! otherwise, no Singaporean dares sound lunder men, all XXXX--- bo-dar one men, but now got bigger "DAR" men. Thank U, you.. Even though I can,t vote for you!!! Chiam, Low, Sylvia, Chee... U ARE DEFINITELY our SPIRIT!!!!
People of Potong Pasir, Keep Up yr energy., afterall, this 71 has really done SOO...... MUCH...... for YOU & us!!!>>>>>>>>> THANK YOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
"COURAGE IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF FEAR. IT IS THE WILL TO ACT IN SPITE OF IT."
If there is anything I have learned from the Worker Party, it is this.
So what if they can trace my vote. So what if they know I did not vote for them.
No one ever say voting for the party of your choice is a wrong thing to do. Do the thing which you feel is right.
Consider this: if WP wins a GRC this time, people will be motivated to join opposition parties. The results is we will be seeing more people of quality joining the political scence in Singapore. And this is a good thing. A First World opposition. Give them a chance!
Let's hope that Mr Chiam will win despite of so tasteful "carrot" PAP has offered. People of PP are not blind, THEY CAN SEE. Also good luck to Steve Chia at CCK.
Although I do not stay in Potong Pasir, I'm very touched by the whole-hearted devotion of Mr Chiam to helping the residents. I wish the residents of PP will look at the big picture and not the temptation of the upgradings proposed by the PAP. It will be saddening if they are to give in to the upgrading temptation, which in my opinion, is a right that every Singaporean should have! Be it PAP constituency or opposition constituencies, we are all Singaporeans!! Let us not be divded by the stupid upgrading which the PAP keep stressing!! Do not let them treat us as simpletons!
I Am a resident staying in Bedok and I attended the Potong Pasir Rally tonight... I am touch by the supports Mr Chiam See Tong have from the residents... and I really hope the support would turn into votes for him... If he wasn;t doing his work and is not a good MP, would he last 22 years and won the support of so many people?
I also really respect Mr Chiam See Tong for what he has done for the residents of Potong Pasir. He devoted his 22 years of lives making the life of Potong Pasir better and surely he deserved another... if not 2 more terms in Potong Pasir!
Yes... the upgrading tactics employed by the PAP is extremely unfair to the opposition wards... How Can you used the taxpayers' mney to enrich yourself and for your party interest? Like what i Heard in a WP's rally: Singaporeans must remember 1 of the stars in our National Flag stands for equility... and What the PAP government is doing: Selectively upgrading lifts and leaving Opposition wards behind... Is this call a First World Government?
Right now to me the people of Potong Pasir is facing 1 of the biggest challenge... to resists the same old tactics employed by the PAP
Please Voters of Potong Pasir Do not get swayed by the carrots of upgrading that the PAP offers
Support Chiam See Tong and the Opposition Parties!
Let's hope I heard more good news tomorrow about the opposition winning more seats!!!
And let's Hope Chiam See Tong retain his seat in Potong Pasir!
Mr. Chiam See Tong, you are an inspiration and testament that there IS hope for Singapore still!
People of PP, rememeber what Mr Chiam has done for you and what he has sacrificed to fight for what you have! The PAP only knows how to dangle carrots and this current GE has already attested to their lack of care and concern for the people of Singapore. All they know is calling others names throughtout the crucial Campaigning days and now, when they fear all is lost, they try to bait the entire Singapore in supporting them by saying there will be more Progress Packages to come!
Look at the wards under PAP, ask yourself which PAP-ward has the privileges of being allocated $180million instantaneously for upgrading? Ask yourself who the money belongs to and why upgrading is selective? Does this show that they do not hold the rest of the PAP wards in same esteem?
There are SO MANY in Singapore who wants to vote but am not given the right to, you have a CHOICE! Do the right thing and vote for the one who has shown his sincerity, sacrificed all for your well-being and not let greed blind your eyes. See who is the one who has really cared for your well-being with no motives.
Mr Chiam, although you are not one of those contesting in my area, I wish you all the BEST and my entire family SALUTES you for your belief and tenacity! We will pray for your success!
Mr. Chiam See Tong is a hero of Singapore in the political arena. His sacrifice, love for fellow Singaporeans, dedication and care for Potong Pasir constituents are values that Singaporeans should emulate, despite having to stand firm against the full barrage of the PAP and its usage of national and civil structures for its self-centred party objectives.
God bless you Mr. Chiam. May your days be filled with His presence of joy, peace & love. May your children be blessed specially because of your righteous spirit.
"I really can't believe SM Goh actually went as far as publishing Potong Pasir Town Council's accounts just for the sake of winning an election (and not his own, for that matter!)"
Dear Mr Chiam,
Although I dun below to Potong Pasir, I wish you all the best and win it big tonight.
I hope that the elected opposition parties can help to review the bank accounts and assets of the ministers and MPs and check on how they inflated their worths legally or illegally.
I am sick of the Bull Shits from the high handed ruling parties cos we were treated as idiots with non stop showering of lies and cover ups just to ensure that they become Muilti Millionaires after every election.
Lets also build up a list of the four leggeds in the media that have put in their very best effort to blind the voters.
PP residents will soon find out that they will not get their lift upgrading anytime soon if they voted for the PAP. The fact is that the Government will be awarding the contracts to build the IR real soon and the construction industry will be at maximum capacity in the coming months. The Govt does not want to overheat one particular sector.

Residents of PP, thank you for making my prediction wrong, I am so grateful your souls have not been bought. The percentage win of 56% ,although not ideal, is still a win for you as residents and for those like me, who do not have a chance to vote. There is hope for us all.
Win big Mr. Chiam!
