Will the real First World voter please stand up? - CNA

Singaporeans:
Singapore Election Watch would like to point out that CNA writers are a bunch of thieves. If you have already noticed, the title of this article is very similar to the specific post entitled, "Will the Real "wayang" party, please stand up?" posted on March 5th, 2006 on 9.29 pm. As you can see, the CNA article was posted this morning. Furthermore, it has come to our attention that over the past months, members from Mediacorps have been coming to this site. Therefore, it should not be a dubious matter that indeed, the CNA writers are taking ideas of fellow bloggers like Singapore Election Watch. However, instead of portraying the sentiments of these Internet sites, CNA continues to observe self-censorship and suppress public dissent. Indeed, this is an utter disgrace. The PAP has continued to invest large sums of money into the local media, and many hold large numbers of shares. This of course, is no surprise to any of us: the media has always been the spokesperson for the PAP-propaganda machine! Yet, one would assume that with all these investments, the media would develop some amount of creativity. They've failed, and they continue to blatantly emphasize their bias towards PAP! We are appalled, and all Singaporean bloggers who have dedicated their time, effort and dedication to documenting this year's General Election ought to be appalled by this! Singapore Election Watch demands an outright apology from CNA, and urges readers to voice their opposition to CNA through email/letters/phonecalls to Mediacorps! We've had enough of their bullshit pushovers!
Welcome them. Copying is the best flattery... they must have ran out of ideas!
ReplyDeleteThis is most definitely a very skewed and biased report.
ReplyDelete"Do we have First World voters?". The question is in itself places undue importance on an issue of non consequence and obviously highlights the lack of understanding on the writer's part of what essentially constitutes a democracy. A democracy as defined by Merriam Webster's dictionary is "a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections". Where does it state that a "first world voter" is a pre-requisite? Is it stated in any way in the constitution that a citizen should in be deprived of his or her right to vote simply because he is short of impressive intellectual credentials? Coincidentally, the Minister Mentor, Lee Kuan Yew, had at one point in time contemplated a idea where certain classes of citizens like a man who is married with children be entitled to more than one vote. The argument was that people with children had a larger stake in wanting a good and honest government elected to power. This was a very dangerous thought to entertain. Why? It allows certain members of society to potentially steer the country in a manner which meets their own needs while removing this same basic right from others deemed unworthy of it. It is all the more alarming when it is packaged in a way that seems responsible and well thought out. This is an elitist and exclusive policy no matter what form it takes.
For a self proclaimed objective news source to endorse these ideas only leads one to question the integrity of media. At best, it exposes the naïveté and lack of understanding in the subject on the part of the reporter.
