Singtel Expects Australian growth

INCOMING Singapore Telecommunications Ltd boss Chua Sock Koong expects a recovery in the Australian mobile market after a period of consolidation and growth in broadband.

"We have seen some consolidation (in Australia), largely because of the competition in the mobile industry," Ms Chua told journalists today.

"But we see growth in the broadband business.

"Certainly, we'd like to use the unbundled local loop, the ULL ... to address the market."

Ms Chua said the company, which owns local telco Optus, continued to be very confident of its Australian business.

"We do expect the mobile business to recover after the period of consolidation," she said.

"So we continue to be very confident of our Australian business."

Ms Chua, who was today named as successor to Lee Hsien Yang, said at the group level, SingTel had a very diversified earnings and revenue base.

She said international telephony revenue, once the "cash cow" of the company, now represented less than 10 per cent of revenue, and SingTel was now much more dependent on sectors such as mobiles.

"So from the group's perspective, we do have a very diversified earnings base," she said.

Does anyone has any proof that Ms Chua is indeed MM's niece. I did not see any proof when I read the thread in Sammyboy. The originator of the thread claim that this is true, but there is no links verifying this.

The Lee family is at it again. Foolish Singaporeans never wake up. This makes their job easier.Maybe, we would soon hear that Singapore also ranks 140th in intelligence in a survey conducted by World Intelligence Without Borders.

Hi,
I don't think there is evidence that Ms Chua is related to the Lee family.
Unless this relationship is proven, this whole article is not credible or responsible.

Man, you guys have been "tricked". A malicious poster with the email handle "wongcuntseng" has infiltrated sammyboy to post blantant lies, hoping that they will be picked by overzealous alternative party members and spread as truth. Perhaps this is another way that the PAP uses to discredit the oppositon. I would suggest pulling of this article, and checking the validity of sources.

But there is also NO proof that this Chua is NOT RELATED to the Lees. Her marital status is not mentioned at all.

Several people have asked the person who make the claim in sammyboy to substantiate it, but he have yet to post even a single reply to show his allegation. We should all keep our cool, and wait for his answer, instead of just repeating his allegation...

In world of no transparency and policies that run on secrecy, it's good to have some rumours going around the city to question PAP's accountability.

Last time we ran a article on how PAP's election candidate Zaqy Mohamad was a nephew of Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi, minister Lee Boon Yang couldn't resist coming out saying it was 'completely untrue'.
