The General Elections is here and in the next few days, the campaigning will intensify. However, unlike other countries even those around us, the PAP has altered the election system so that the period of campaigning very short 9 days. During this period you will hardly know the candidates you're voting for. Most voters will just go for "familiar" faces such as the minister etc. This together with linking of votes to upgrading, GRCs, control of the media creates a playing field so uneven, it is painfully embarassing for Singaporeans describe their election system to foreigners.
Right now the PAP is telling us that their candidates are very good and selected through a rigorous selection system. What is this system? Besides a series of tea sessions by our PM & MM not much is known. In the end a group of high flying elites are selected and because of the unlevel playing field in the elections they have an almost 100% chance of being elected by coattailing in GRCs. The PAP has replaced our election process with a selection process and now tell us don't worry, they have selected dedicated people who will devote their energy to service you. ....Do you buy this?
If I were selecting people as MPs the first fundamental question I would ask is "Are you committed enough to Singaporeans to serve the people full time?". The PAP candidates fail on this fundamental question. To them serving the people of Singapore is not important enough for them to quit their full time jobs. Even at an MP allowance of $13K which ordinary Singaporeans will very high and extravagent, it is not enough to for these people to dedicate their full attention to serving the people. At parliament sittings, we find many of these elites absent. It seems their life is so successful, they have no issues to raise and no question to ask. Are these the type of people you want as MPs?
We Singaporeans facing challenges in the workplace, competition from foreign talents, high cost of living, and rising cost of medical care need representatives with more passion to serve the people. We need people who are motivated enough to step forward with determination, not the kind of candidate that has to be persuaded repeated to become a reluctant part-time PAP MP.
Who will speak for you ordinary people of Singapore. Think hard. ..and make the right choice.
No level playing field? PAP don't understand the worker's fear of losing their jobs to foreigners? You sure? Take a look at how many mps were retired early this election. and how many more foreigners are we seeing in the pap's ranks now? pap also talks about this election being one for the future. and you'd think those cannot make it mps can hang around after the next election? woah, seems like globalisation creeps in on everyone.
How do you pronounce the chinese word for "people elected" in hokkien, main sween lah!
Will Singapore demorcacy might end up to that kind of state, we already witnessed?
Do we,the owner of this country, have a mean to prevent?
Yes, you are absolutely right, we have, it is the survival of the Singapore opposition parties. Some said they are no up to the first world opposition standard. Do we really care now at this moment. What point is to say that kind of higher expectation while allowing Singaporean opposition being wipe off by lift upgrading and many promises of project that should be of a first world govenment's duty and should be fairly distribute based on need and time to citizen whatout discrimination. We must learn to denuounce use of govenment resources to facilities political party wishes, some polictical party claimed that such ugly practices is a norm, and quoted to be employed even by first world country parties.
If it is a truth, we do not known to what extent, is that comparable to the local scenes?
So, why give more % of vote (or called mandate) than the neccessity.
Singaporean, by today, already voted in a first world party via the "mian sween" system (unless a unimageable upset to be happened to AMK GRC, Lee loss to very youth opposition candidate)
Lee said he going to lead this country for the next 20 years.
You want to have "mian sween" election for the next 20 years? answer this question in your heart.
Mandate for 10,15,20 years ? I'm already dead. These have been repeated many times in GEs. I am sick of it.Bread and butter for tomorrow is more important than dreaming 10 or 20 yaers. Old metality and thoughts and can not live up today's fast information era.
What rigorous selection process? I am glad the people of Potong Pasir did not vote in Andy Gan. Failed in Potong Pasir and entered Parliament on the coattails of Goh Chok Tong and guess what lasted only 1 term.
Andy Gan is a 1 term MP. Imagine if he had been voted in by the PP residents. And don't forget the only reason we are enjoying the progress package is because of the opposition.
I just cannot understand the "superiority" of PAP candidates when these people have to be repeatedly invited to stand for election. It goes to show that they are not sincere and earnest in serving the people and Singapore. These are smart people and I am sure they know the windfall they will get if they become office holders, if cannot, then they may get invited to be directors on companies, or worst, boast that they were "talented" enough to be invited by the PAP. There is obviously good career and monetary benefits for these PAP candidates.
Guys, you all have to understand that it is very hard for PAP to persuade good men and women to stand for election. Those who agree to do so know that they will have to say they support the robbing of taxpayers money from opposition ward to pay for the upgrading of PAP supported wards. Do you expect any honest person will agree to do this? Now you know what kind of persons are running on the PAP ticket. Ask them this question when they go round the wards and watch them squirm.
In contrast, it is plain as day that opposition candidates are risking bankrupcy or unemployment - you have to admit that these are brave men and women indeed.
